Local pubs

I'm up in Stoke (sadly) at Uni, so if anyone wants to know where the best places to drink, there was two options. One is called The Terrace (a 5 minute walk from the station) or the local Student Union (Ember Lounge) is the other option, 2 minutes from the station :)

Stoke's new ground is always a bastard for away pubs, we usually have a drink in Stone on the way up, The Football Ground Guide suggests:

"Next to
the stadium is a Holiday Inn and a Harvester
Pub/Restaurant that do allow in away fans. You
can also park at the Harvester itself for a cost
of £3. A bit further away on Dennis Viollett
Road (off Sir Stanley Matthews Way) is a Power
League complex that also has a bar, which also
allows in away supporters, shows SKY television
and you can even park in their car park for
£4.50. Otherwise alcohol is available on the
concourses at the back of the away end, but
queues can be lengthy, especially if there is a
big support."

If you've got some time on your hands, it's probably better to stop off in either Stone or Newcastle-under-Lyme for a pre-match pint on the way in (depending on which direction you're coming from), there are next to no pubs around the ground and the city centre is miles away, also, the times I've travelled to the Britannia on the train, the police usually wrap all the Villa fans up in an escort at Stoke-on-Trent station and herd you into the away end, where the concourse is rammed and the beer is in tiny plastic bottles and expensive, if they serve it at all.

Can't be arsed with that shite, I'll be going no colours and walking down the canal to the ground, I think.

First time on the Club transport, do they check for booze on the coach?

Yes.

Best bet is a hip flask, or a bottle of red bull or Lucozade with a generous helping of vodka in it.

The old ones are the best.

I don't wear colours to games mate but anyone coming off a train from Birmingham is likely to be corralled up in one!

Taken from google...

The police encourage away fans to head for the Ember Lounge, which is the students union bar at Staffordshire University, just over the road from the station. However, they don't push it. One advantage of the Ember Lounge is that buses are provided to take everyone to the ground.

Pretty sure the beer will be cheap in a student bar!
