I've always really enjoyed flying with Emirates, but the flights from Manchester are usually A380 if you're connecting through Dubai to Asia so even in economy they're spacious.  The food is good too.

Curiously seat pitch in economy is the same on the A380 as the 777-300, but I know what you mean.

Personally I prefer the Triple 7 over the 380.

I like the A-380 ever since i saw it nearly doing loop the loops at farnborough  .. I figure no tubulence is bringing one of those boys down

If i'm flying an airline and a route that has them then invariable I'll pick the flight time that is operating them

my only gripe is that with 76 seats in Business on some routes it can be a little crowded at the bar :)

Emirates investigating 11 seats per row on some of their A380s, pushing capacity to 630.

That means that those reasonably wide seats in economy are about to become narrower.

Clearly one Abu Dhabi bail out is enough. They need to start making money!

anyone flown with Qatar?

i'll have a 50 minute connection, read that they do a quick turn around system but its meant to be a piss poor airport, but for a 50 minutes in and out job as long as i can make that connection i wouldnt care

It's a bit of a building site at the moment but my mate was there last week working on the new airport and reckons it could be open soon so it may depend on when you fly

They operate buses around the terminal from the planes which can take about 10 mins depending on where you are on the runway so 50 mins won't give you a lot of time to worry about the airport

If you are on a Qatar flight and catching another Qatar flight they will probably come and meet you from the plane if its tight due to a delay .. You'll make it but your luggage might not :)

Lufthansa.

flew with them to russia in september, from manchester, didnt like having to do the computer thing before going to the check in, they were also really under staffed running 2 desks for 3 flights and seemed to have some problems with customers (chinese people who couldnt understand that you can only have one piece of hand luggage as opposed to 3 or 4 like they trying to do), not that it stopped them going on breaks... people around me started complaining that it was taking so long, someone from lufthansa simply shouted "dont worry your flights delayed anyway" was a shocking service

pretty sure it was just a manchester airport thing because they great everywhere else, the connections were very good as was the info provided to those who were impacted by the delay

a lot of checkin staff are not airline employees are they?

I must admit the many times i have used lufthansa in Germany and to and from the country i have found them to be (not surprisingly) ...... German.

Check in staff for non-based airlines are provided by the handling agents, which at BHX and probably MAN are Swissport and Servisair (known by their staff as 'Circusair')

With Lufthansa's network from BHX, I can't get over the fact that a guy who lives in Kidderminster is sent to Manchester to go to Moscow via Germany.

It's a crazy world!

I think it's all about each experience  ... I wasn't impressed with them when I flew to Cuba with them  ... but Virgin Blue that I used all around Oz and the Islands were pretty much faultless

penny pinching! it was st petersburg, not sure how many airlines fly there direct but lufthansa were cheap and it only added a couple of hours on so it was worth it

whilst we were in the air, because we were delayed, they started reading off all the connecting flights and where people had to go and then came round and explained to people what they had to do, when we landed those that were tight for time were met and taken to where they had to be, that side of it was spot on

Virgin are okay, they are just not as good as the hype, pretty much a run of the mill airline.

Their Premium Economy is proper PE, not just extra leg room like you get on KL, UA etc., so you have a nice wide seat.

The upper deck is good, because you have little cubby holes down the side to store all the crap that you (I) take on board for LH flights.

I am down to the Caribbean on biz with them next week, in the back of the plane because I am taking a junior employee, and I refuse to sit up front while an employee is in the back (I am a pocket socialist!). They have taken the 747 off that route, so first time in one of their A330s, which will be interesting.

Thanks for comments , my first time on a jumbo i've heard there a lot noisier than your usual planes ?

My last few flights have all been with Ryanair so i'm sort of expecting Virgin to feel like im in a Rolls Royce lol .

Well if you were flying on their A340-600's or A330-300's, you would have been in a Rolls-Royce because both aircraft are powered by RR engines in VAA's fleet. The 744's are powered by GE CF6-80C2B1F engines. The noisier the better in my opinion! You still can't beat a RB211-524 BA 744 sound. Well, maybe the C-5 Galaxy pre-engine upgrade.

There are plenty of Jumbo's being retired now. Lufthansa, ANA, BA (just sent another to Victorvile along with a 767-300ER), Cathay, United etc. so get on them with the legacy carriers whilst you can.

Saw a BA  A380 taking off over Windsor on Sat whilst i was in Windsor Great park with the boy  ... presume they will replace a few jumbo's in the long run ..

BA's booking system is pretty ace now  ... when you book a ticket for anyone travelling with you it adds them  friends and family and stores all their details for the next time  .. and you can use Avios for anyone you book for now not just Household account members

just booked a flight to Istanbul for my mate and I on the way to Iran  .. £60 discount for 9000 Avios and when It came to entering his details as I've flown with him before it was all there on a pull down list, exec card and all ....  and my payment card info all stored on-line as well so didn't even have to open my wallet (just like a Sat night out :) )

Oh and I started a corporate account which means I get individual Avios and company Avios when I fly with them now   ... Booked Mrs H and the children to Hungary in the summer using the corporate ones so still got my stash intact :)  ( well it was intact but I've just Avios'd my flight to Baku :) )
