Ensemble Pearl (O'Malley, Atsuo, Kurihara, Herzog (not that one)) is pretty good. On first listen it's not as mind blowing as I've heard some people/reviews describe it as, but I will give it another listen in the coming days and see if I feel any better about it.

The Physics House Band's debut EP Horizons/Rapture is due out in 5 days on Blood and Biscuits and 'tis available to stream in it's entirety from FakeDIY.  There won't be a finer math-freakout-space-rock release this year, that I can guarandamntee.  'Titan' is a face-melting-laser-cannon-ripsnorter of a track.

Big Big Train (terrible name, great band) - English Electric part 2:

BBTEE2CoverForWeb.jpg

Fantastic album (as is part 1, incidentally). (Very) English progressive rock with a heavy folk/classical flavour, in the tradition of early Genesis, Jethro Tull, Strawbs, Barclay James Harvest and a bit of Yes. Songs about steam trains and shipyards, hedgerows and cathedrals, coal mines and butterflies, brilliantly sung, played and arranged.

I don't like hyping records, but this has gone straight into my all-time favourites list, it's that good. Astral Weeks good. Forever Changes good. Amazing stuff.

Brennisteinn is amazing. Can't wait for the album (Brennisteinn is the first 3 tracks).

My most anticipated for the rest of the year are:

Laura Stevenson (and the Cans) - Wheel (this one is tantalizing. just a week or so left ahhh)

Summoning - Old Morning's Dawn (trailer released today http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9XTxXEcqLU'>here. I'll jizz buckets when I hear the first note I know)

Eluvium - Nightmare Ending

The National - Trouble Will Find Me

What a year it's been already.

Has them introducing each track as it goes along. Good listen. There is one track that uses the sound a passing subway train as a beat. Genius.
