dubbs
Evening all. Our car finally gave up the ghost over the weekend (timing chain broke) and the cost of repair is more than the car is worth. What do we do now? Its got to be scrapped so as well as the insurance peeps who else do we need to inform? Tax is up at the end of the month.
hycus-flange
you know that log book thing, well on there is a section all about scrapping the car, just fill it in and send it off to SA99 and all your woes are gone
dubbs
Cheers bud. Log book, wonder where that is lol. Scrap yard here we come!
whitsend
Just take it to a local scrap yard with your log book and they'll register it as destroid with the dvla. I'd recommend a quick google of a company called emr, they have sites pretty much everywhere and they probably pay the best and give you certificate of destruction. CI
When them pikeys come round collecting old fridges and stair gates, throw them the keys. Job done.
Jimzk5
Depending on the size, you should get a hundred quid scrap for it, I scrapped a Peugeot 306 a few terse ago and got £
snowychap
Make sure you either get a certificate of destruction from a reputable lot or notify the DVLA yourself otherwise you'll end up still responsible for the vehicle and liable for car tax (a gov link). dubbs
Few offers of cash but checking with few more. Ideally getting the purchaser to handle the hassle of scrapping, notification to dvla etc
blunther
I used Taroni's. Got £120 for scrapping a car a few months back, and they dealt with all the paperwork. That's if you're in brum.
