The Randy Lerner thread

He's made an absolutely massive mistake in hiring McLeish and continuing to keep him in the job. However, I still think if he can get rid of him either now or in the summer and bring in a good replacement then a lot of fans will forgive him. However, if McLeish is still here at the start of next season he can watch as season ticket sales and attendances plummet through the floor.

DO SOMETHING.

We will not a be a Premier League team if McLeish stays here for the full three years.

Even this shockingly shit manager who loves relegation wont manage to relegate us.

He'll just regress us and we will be in the dunces half of the table.

Definitely not this season, but I think next season or the season after we'll definitely be in it.

The day we beat Blackburn to get to the final of the Carling cup everyone was singing "there's only 1 Randy Lerner" Now everyone thinks he's a word removed. Things change very quickly.

That was over 2 years ago.

Everyone dislikes McLeish for doing shit. Suddenly he picks up a rare scrappy league win and people with low ambition are shocked by an alien result. Now people dislike him again.

That's things changing very quickly.

I don't. I still appreciate what he's done for the club I'm just really frustrated by the McLeish appointment.

Why should people have big ambition's though? We are not a top 6 club anymore. The days of teams like Man united and Chelsea fearing us because we could easily beat them on our day are gone. Those people getting happy over a scrappy win know every win is important right now.

If it's true that the Villa board monitor this forum then I would like to ask them for some consistency. Houllier was sacked/asked to step down etc when his heart gave him trouble, that said, the General is thought to have told Villa fans that Houllier would be gone at the end of the season because his reign wasn't good enough for Aston Villa. Is there anyone on the board who feels that Alex McLeish has done any better? Attendances are dropping not just because of a lack of money amongst fans. We are losing heart with the poor quality of football, the lack of heroes on the pitch, the lack of scrappers and battlers. McLeish was a poor choice, admit it, get rid, move on.

I was brought on on watching Villa players who were probably not quite good enough but who scrapped and battled for every loose ball. I just don't see that from these players and that is firmly down to the Manager, they don't battle AND they're not good enough. It's about time Villa got in another Taylor or Saunders or Atkinson and ask them to build a dynasty. Listen to the fans for their thoughts on the right sort of Manager. It was never, ever going to be Alex McLeish. (Paul Lambert would be a useful choice please).

We've been in the league since it's birth. Why should we be thankful of survival?

That means nothing right now. Do you think if we got relegated people will feel sorry for us because we have been here forever? Some people are just thinking realistically. Relegation is a possibility now. Those thinking we have any right to be in the top 10 are very hopeful. I've come to the reality that we are no longer the same side under Martin O'neill and are miles from it.

We're still a capable top 10 outfit. You don't have players like Given, Bent, Gabby etc and think relegation is a possiblity. But McLeish has made that happen because he has no place in the Premier League and it showed again today.

Thanks Randy. Thanks a bunch for being a typical yank.

Agreed.

A decent manager would have us easily in right part of the table and not in the dunces half.

6 wins in 24 games is embarrasingly bad.

I know Lerner and co. has succesfully managed to regress some fans expectations to very low levels but any sensible person can see this is shit and unacceptable for Aston Villa as a club.

Maybe he also over-inflatted some fans expectations with too much growth too quickly after he purchased the club. It's sometimes easy to forget where you came from.

Before Mcleish goes - can we get someone else to the hiring. Houllier , Mcleish , - whose next ? Steve Bruce Neil Warock, or Mick Mccarthy. .............not unrealistic either

He can't be trusted to appoint a manager its as simple as that. He has made two monumental **** ups in Houllier and McLeish.

Firstly Houllier who it was clear was past it and out of touch and to make things worse at the time when we were trying to cut back on spending he was a known cheque book manager. It was therefore no surprise he needed the best part of 30 mill to drag us out of the shit he got us into and left a with a poor record of 33 points from 28 games.

Now we have McLeish who has two recent relegations on his CV and has not surprisingly done little better than his predecessor taking 28 points from 24 games.

Its quite remarkable really that the best Lerner could do with a club of the stature of Aston Villa - 4th most successful club in English Football and when he came to appoint Houllier one that had re-established itself in the top six - was to attract the managers he has.

I dread to think who he will be able to attract if we continue to slide as we have over the last 20 months.

Lerner doesn't have a clue about football and football management. He may be a businessman but a football club is a whole lot different to a credit card company.

His two appointments have been total **** ups and he is taking us backwards not forwards.

The sooner he sells up the better.

Lerner out.

You’d think a penny might of dropped for Lerner/Falkner over the summer. Having sacked O’Neill who was one a one year rolling contract they found themselves having to give him just over a mill in a pay off. Having thankfully **** off Houllier they found themselves having to pay him in excess of 3mill in a pay off due to having given him a 3 year deal.

Armed with the above what do they do? They give McLeish a 3 year deal. It is bad enough they appointed McLeish but like Houllier to give him a three year deal was madness.
