Genting not renewing sponsorship

The club really is in a dire situation if we are relegated - I assume we will not get anything like £8 million per year for another sponsorship. Say we get at best £2 million in the Championship. Together with the net loss after the parachute payment we will also have lost a further £50 million on TV rights. A decline in gate money, merchandise sales + hospitality could take out another £4-5 million.

So based on my very rough fag packet calculations we could miss out on around £60 million in revenue next season.

It beggars the question why we are not making a few marque signings?

You would almost think Randy doesn't care if we go down.

Genting are hardly a giant company btw - I really wouldn't be worrying or looking into this too much, we'll get a new sponsor without any trouble whatsoever

You are dreaming and wrong. Corporate sponsorhip is in very short supply at the moment and our record on that front over the last 5 years has hardly been sparkling. The Genting deal was exceptional and will be very difficult to replace.

Id rather we go back to Acorns personally. am not a big fan of sponsorship on jerseys, means a lot more for lower league clubs in terms of revenue.

for me it doesnt really work, ive never watched a game and wonder about the club sponsor, am sure a few otehrs are the same

I think we would all like Acorns on our shirts but reality is we need to increase our income. We are in a world where the likes of United have a paint sponsor FFS , Arsenal and Man City both rake in millions from ground naming rights. If we want to compete we need to increase are marketability as it's obvious now Lerner can not or will not pump much for cash into the club.

We have a thread here bemoaning lack of transfer but on the other hand people want us to not bother with Shirt sponsor ship. You can't have it both ways

Okay, I guess next year we will play with no sponsor on our shirt because we're so awful that out of every league in football, including Little League Ladywood Under 15's, we are the team that no company will sponsor (aside from the fact that we are actually already sponsored by Fiat, Heineken, Macron and so on).

I'd also like to point out that with Acorns, we actually donated money to them and raised awareness for the charity, it was a bit more than simply shoving their logo on our shirt as a placeholder.

It works in reverse for me - I have never purchased or drunk Carlsberg, Carling Black Label, Sharp Viewcams, JVC products, Newcastle Brown, AIG bank products, Candy white goods, Etihad plane tickets, Wonga - some of this is because I don't need them, prefer other brands anyway or because they sponsored a team I do not like.

Likewise, i have never purchased anything off the back of a company sponsoring a league or cup competition. I occasionally drink Coca Cola - always have and always will. Not because they sponsored a trophy.

Likewise, I have purchased Walkers Crisps, but not because they sponsored Leicester for example.

I will never ever purchase Darylea - but I have my own reasons for that. Not football related.

Great, we're gonna end up with a pissed Macron man sat in a cinquecento on our shirts aren't we....typical.

next up will be macron pulling the plug as we wont be doing them any credibility by being linked with us, we wont be big enough or them

whos smaller than macron? any market stalls in town fancy making a few shirts up for us?

Why would you think that? I've heard people mention this, but I've never seen it on an official statement.

Like choffer I am sure this was said and I think it came from the General and I also felt going with Genting was a big turn around. I am looking to hunt down the source.

John, what escape route? We signed 2 year contract and that will run down and expire - I think they are in more of a financial pickle than we are TBH

Quite right Denis. At the time it was called an "initial" 2 year deal which they are now leaving at that rather than extending as had at first been suggested they might. I guess they got what they wanted from us and could not afford to or did not want to extend above that first 2 year deal.

I'll try and break this down some more for the doom mongers who are worried Genting Casinos could decide the fate of our club:

The main purpose of sponsoring a football team's shirt is to increase brand awareness, and isn't based on the pity wealthy business men have for shit sportsmen (shocking I know!). In our case, Genting currently pay us money so that we print their logo quite largely on each and every adult replica shirt sold, selected training gear and outerwear, sponsor boards in pre-match and post-match interviews, as well as on the shirts of the players who take part in our games.

Lets say Aston Villa sell 50,000 replica shirts in a year worldwide (could be more, could be less, I don't know for sure). That is 50,000 people sporting the logo of Genting Casinos who will easily each come across hundreds, if not thousands, of people whilst wearing their shirt. Let us also combine that with the fact that there are millions across the globe who will have seen the Genting Casinos logo whilst watching matches, interviews, AVTV, Benteke's backheel to Weimann on Youtube etc.

Genting Casinos pay Aston Villa for the service of allowing them to reach the huge audience that Aston Villa commands, and if they have indeed decided not to renew the 2-year contract that is coming to an end (whether it be due to a lack of funds; achievement of whatever goal was set by originating the sponsorship; not achieving whatever goal was set by originating the sponsorship or simply the fact that Aston Villa lost 8-0 to Chelsea) then I am pretty sure the people towards the top of Aston Villa will have no problems in finding a new shirt sponsorship partner if they are not in talks with one already.

Now, how about switching this topic up and simply stating who we might want on the front of our shirts next season:

I'll go with Acorns again because I feel spreading the word about their good work is a much better cause than a putting a few million into the club, and would also give us some good PR again rather than the press taking the complete and utter piss out of us.

As much as I would love to have acorns back on the shirt (because it's a good cause and I like the simple logo), it seems like we really could do with a major cash injection right now, so give the deal to the highest bidder, simple as. I'd imagine we won't finalise a deal until it's decided which league we will be playing in next season, which will be a huge factor.

didnt acorns lose alot of money from actually being on the front of the shirts? im sure i read that somewhere

anyhow, as much as i like our partnership with acorns, i dont think they should be on the shirt, as already said, we need money to invest, considering lerner wont cough up to save his own business

I read somewhere that their donations declined because people assumed they were sorted with the sponsorship.

The curse of the Villa shirt sponsor strikes again. Don't all the firms end up going belly up -

Davenports

Mita

CDWS

MG

AST

Be afraid Genting

LDV?

Not a massive worry for me. If the glass were half full, negotiating a new deal having secured European football by winning the League cup for a record equalling 5th (?) time, we should be getting more next season anyway.
