Russian election hacking reached 39 States

Russian Cyber Hacks on U.S. Electoral System Far Wider Than Previously Known

Russia’s cyberattack on the U.S. electoral system before Donald Trump’s election was far more widespread than has been publicly revealed, including incursions into voter databases and software systems in almost twice as many states as previously reported.

In Illinois, investigators found evidence that cyber intruders tried to delete or alter voter data. The hackers accessed software designed to be used by poll workers on Election Day, and in at least one state accessed a campaign finance database. Details of the wave of attacks, in the summer and fall of 2016, were provided by three people with direct knowledge of the U.S. investigation into the matter. In all, the Russian hackers hit systems in a total of 39 states, one of them said.

Worth reading in full. When it's all stitched together with the other ongoing investigations then the possible implications for US/western relations with Russia are massive.

Espionage is fair enough and part of the game but this is a form of warfare.

This is a bit of a case of you live by the sword you die by the sword.  The US have for years used cyberweapons to wage undeclared wars, the most high profile being the destruction of nuclear centrifuges in Iran using malicious code.  United States Cyber Command was not created to sit on its hands and just wait for an opportunity to defend the US homeland, it was absolutely created with the function of creating offensive cyber capabilities.  It is not just military targets that the US have created capabilities against, there have been political aims much like those pursued by the Russians in the 2016 US election.  The Arab Spring, whilst not started by the US was influenced through pro democracy funding and training of key activists in social media use and tools.  It all sounds terribly familiar when you have a look at what the Ruskies have been doing to the States.  IMO whilst I agree 100% that this is a form of warfare, it is far from unfair.  The US have been using these tools as part of the game for too long to cry foul when someone does the same to them.  What is really needed is to bring these capabilities into line with other international weapons treaties and reach an agreement on limiting the use of them as in the long run they can be every bit as devastating a conventional war.

Congressman Steve Scalise amongst 5 people shot this morning after a gunman fires 50 shots at the republican congressional baseball team practice session

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/14/us/steve-scalise-congress-shot-alexandria-virginia.html?_r=0

A lone gunman opened fire on Republican members of the congressional baseball team at a practice field in a Washington suburb Wednesday, using a rifle to shower the field with bullets that struck five people, including Steve Scalise, the majority whip of the House of Representatives.

Two members of Mr. Scalise’s protective police detail were wounded as they exchanged gunfire with the shooter in what other lawmakers described as a chaotic, terror-filled ten minutes that turned the baseball practice into an early-morning nightmare. Police said a total of five people were shot, two critically.

In addition, the NSA have been used to enable and enrich corporate America at the expense of their overseas competitors. This is documented.

Asked by reporters if more should be done to protect politicians, McAuliffe replied: “I think we need to do more to protect all of our citizens. I have long advocated – this is not what today is about – but there are too many guns on the streets.”

He then misspoke, claiming: “We lose 93 million Americans a day to gun violence. I have long talked about this. Background checks and shutting down gun show loopholes, and that’s not for today’s discussion, but it’s not just about politicians. We worry about this every day for all of our citizens.”

Prompted by a journalist, McAuliffe later clarified that 93 individuals, not 93 million, die every day from gun violence.

Papers saying Mueller's primary focus right now is Trump himself, on obstruction charges. If true, Trump's days could be numbered. Great **** news TBH.

The fact that they are focusing on Trump first and foremost basically means that they want him out of office ASAP, before he can do too much more damage.

By this point in the London bridge attack, Trump had used it to promote his travel ban and attacked Sadiq Khan.

Silence today.

I wonder why.

Because Melania, Ivanka and Tiffany all have full bladders and King Don Un has been up all night breaking the Whitehouse toilets.
