FA to Investigate Clattenburg Over Racist Language

Mike up the refs. Lets hear what is said in all its filthy glory and after 1 wonderfully unbroadcastable game Sky would stop it over night. Actually it would enhance the game for the viewers at home (and in the stands if they buy/rent a headset) to hear the decisions and the explainations for decisions on the spot. Its one of the reasons Rugby Union is great to watch on TV, you hear what is said - and then the 19st prop forward says "yes sir" to the little streak of piss in the refs outfit.

Absofeckinglutely

I think this is a dark cloud on English football. If Clattenburg is guilty(personally I dont think he is so stupid to make a comment in a huge game when cameras all around him) then he is finished, if he is cleared Chelsea or MIkel should have to face some sort of punishment as the man livelihood and reputation is on the line

his defense will be that he said "i couldnt give a monkeys" apparently

Which in turn isn't remotely racist. Old sailors slang along the same likes as couldn't give a rats arse and couldn't give a flying f**k

If Chelsea and Mikel honestly believe you can't use the word monkey without being racist then they really are a bunch of chimps

Who is giving Chelsea such bad legal advice?

This.

There is a world of difference between "I'm sorry John Obi - I couldn't give a monkeys" and saying "ooo ooo ooo" and chucking a banana at him,

The whole situation is utterly pathetic. Most likely they have decided they didn't like the way Clattenburg reffed the game and want to get revenge as a result.

I hope Clattenburg recovers from this.

Don't particularly like him, but I don't like any referees, so it would be terrible if his career was ruined just because Chelsea didn't like his decisions and decided to play the racism card, no doubt also to save face on the whole 'we're not racists' argument.

They're just inviting pressure onto themselves now. Crowds will start taking the piss by shouting 'we don't give a monkeys'.

I hope the FA throw the book at Chelsea. They made a very serious accusation without anything to back it up and without thinking through the possibilities or even confronting Clattenburg before making it.

He was confronted after the game, by an angry mob lead by JT where one of them promised to "break his f***ing legs".

Stay classy Chelsea.

I've been behind the scenes at US basketball games and the ref's are escorted in by police. The players can't get near them and neither can anyone else. It takes away the possibility of anyone influencing the outcome for gambling or any other reason.

It seems like the ref's in the UK try to be far too 'buddy buddy' with players. They should keep their distance and the league should enforce it. They might get more respect from the players if they did.

I don't see what Chelsea have done wrong here? If a player makes an allegation of that nature (true or not) then surely Chelsea would of had to follow procedure by investigating and submitting a complaint to The FA. If people want racism out of the game you can't turn a blind eye to allegations like this.

Swerbs they made it public too soon. Before they had established the facts. They've done it before too and been found wrong. It's their M.O. to accuse and establish the facts later on. That is of course when they do bother to tackle racism. And now a potentially (or indeed a likely) innocent person has their very career and certainly their reputation in the balance because of it. Highly highly irresponsible behaviour and if Chelsea are found to be wrong I hope they are hammered financially and I hope there is a form of strike by referees towards their league games.

Yeah some try and be matey the so called top players. I remember a report a report from a few years ago from one of our own players (can't remember which one?), that said Graham Poll was all jokey and calling the Chelsea players by their nicknames like Lamps and JT during the match, but on the other hand telling ours to go away if they tried to even talk to him. It should be the same for all players, and none of the refs should ever get so pally with players. Mic the refs up so fans can listen in is the best way forward, the likes of Rooney will have to improve their vocabulary though as 90 mins of Premier League football will have more f'ing and blinding than Platoon. I suppose they could always run a ten second tv delay, and someone could play an amusing sound effect over any bad language. :D
