Question

The new site has been running for a week now. I'm going to lock the other threads in this forum and try to get a fresh view of any technical issues.

Please post any technical issues in this topic. If you have an "How do I?" question, please do not post it in this thread. check the other unlocked threads in this forum and start a new one if yours has not been asked / answered. This thread is to report issues like not being able to post, problems with PMs and similar.

Before reporting a fault, please clear your browser's cache and cookies and preferably test using another browser.

I'll keep this first post updated with any issues.

Using windows 7 on IE9

Thanks,

I'm not sure why you replied to me and addressed your post to Bickster, but did you read the first post?

Before reporting a fault, please clear your browser's cache and cookies and preferably test using another browser.

Did you do that?

It's trivial, but slightly annoying that we still have the "accidental smiley" syndrome - e.g. make a lettered list, and "b" followed by a right parenthesis comes out as B) . I think on the old site it was 8) that did the same thing.

Why change? Why the random adverts half way down a page between posts?

At present, I am not able to move on to the next page without scrolling all the way back to the top of the current page and moving forward from there. There used to be a page advance opportunity at the bottom of eachpage on the old forum.

I find the new formatting/design to be very fussy and busy indeed and much less simple.

I'm sorry, but I will find it difficult to continue posting to Villa Talk. It's so difficult to navigate round now. You wouldn't miss me anyway.

Good luck with it.

Old software needs to be replaced from time to time. VT was old. Site needs money to run. The internet is not free contrary to popular belief.

There is a still the same "next page functionality at the bottom of every thread. Look harder.

Your opinion, and you are entitled to it

Again, your call. In my view its a huuuuge improvement, apart from being a little bit too "white" and bright to look at for my eyes.

Sometimes clicking on a topic from the lsit of most recent posts takes you to the first page of the thread, rather than the most recent post.

Similarly, if you click on the most recent post as shown next to the actual forum name, the same can happen.

In the forum list, are you clicking on the black dot or star to the left of the topic name when this happens?

Does this still happen after clearing your browser's cache and cookies? Does it happen in another browser on the same PC?

1) No - Just the thread title

2) Still happens, used the Darren Bent thread to test it and went to page 1

3) Still happens with alt browser, used the Darren Bent thread to test it and went to page 1

If you click the dot / star it takes you to the latest unread post every time. Clicking the title takes you to the first post. That's how it works. I don't think I understand the problem. This is the same as the old site (except it was an arrow and it didn't work very well).

You will always go to the first post if you click the title of the topic. You will always go to the first unread post if you click the little dot/star. The "hover text" also tells you this.

As far as I can tell, the root of the issue is the broken edit box for posting/editing. WYSIWYG is braindead.

Certain browsers (Chrome and probably IE) having questionable paste settings also seems to interact with this.

I suspect that since mods are allowed to post HTML, the WYSIWYG processing doesn't occur (at least to the same extent) and so mods and admins don't run into this crap. Turning off WYSIWYG (that power switch in the upper left) seems to make a lot of the problems go away, but it has to be clicked for every post. Half the time I don't remember to do it until the WYSIWYG monster has eaten half the post.

My sig was at one point "I shortlink while intoxicated" (arising out of an interesting Christmas Eve (2008?) on here, IIRC). Something is **** up if it's 50/50 whether a link I post will work.

Thanks Tegis,

I have now found the move forward functionality...

Still not sure why there has to be an advert half way through the thread of messages, which is 'Grrrrrrrr...' Surely there is ample room at the top and bottom of the page for adverts to be ignored.

Anyway, I am trying to give it a go and persist. Finding it hard to just ignore discussion about Villa.

Cheers
