Davkaus
The Spanish police are truly enemies of democracy. Other countries should be sanctioning the **** out of them.
sne
Barca game tonight against Las Palmas postponed for safety reasons. Probably for the best. On a different note Las Palmas was going to sport a Spanish flag on their kits to support a unified Spain. Could have gotten ugly on the pitch as well as in the streets. sne
Latest bid is the Barca game will be played today, but in an empty stadium as La Liga refused to cancel the game. Edit: The pictures of the police brutality is really bad. Edited October 1, 2017 by sne

Perhaps someone could photoshop a Catalan flag over the union flags in this? I'm sure the Catalan people would appreciate the gesture of support.
peterms
There's a thread starting with this one which has some interesting observations from someone living in Barcelona about how she perceives the feelings people have.
PompeyVillan
This is getting ugly, the police are being heavy handed. Beating people up isn't going to stop them from wanting independence.

Apparently there's a provision in the EU treaty which relates to this. Presumably military force means the kind of force used, rather than meaning force used by the military. chrisp65
Yep, the football league will happily have tens of thousands outside the ground tonight - what could possibly go wrong. I'm sure all the Spanish authorities have to do is get through today and it'll all be over.

One of the Barcelona supporter groups made a statement where they encouraged the fans to storm the pitch if the game went ahead so playing it with fans in the ground probably wasn't an option either way. Edit: Game played in front of an empty stadium and still some guy with a flag managed to run onto the pitch and cause a scene after Barca made it 2 - 0. chrisp65
The game shouldn't be played, with or without fans. Imagine Westminster sending in thousands of London based riot police to kick the shit out of Glasgow families, smash up schools and throw women down stairs for asking for democracy, and then the authorities insisting a Celtic game go ahead that evening. It's provocation.
Genie
It's crazy what is happening in Catalonia, really can't believe something like this can happen in this age. Any would be terrorist would have a field day today if they wanted to really make a mess.
magnkarl
It's not long since Spain was run by a fascist - we have to remember that. This is starting to look more and more like Franco's contra operations. Sad state of affairs. Edited October 1, 2017 by magnkarl

If ISIS set a bomb off at a school on a general election the Spanish Government would be giving it the "Trying to stop democracy in Spain", odd that the bombs were the Police and set off by Madrid in Barcelona. If this was plan A, what was plan B, shoot them ?
