Just got from budapest and I have to say it abolsutely FANTASTIC. anyone who is considering going I highly recomend it. The food, the people, the city just incrediable. Wasnt expensive either. Would love to go again

Its crazy how people's views differ on places. I thought the people were vile, really cold and hostile. The food was appalling. Boring ass soups or some white spunk on my steak.

I went on a two month tour of Europe and only place I didn't like. But as ive said before I want to go back because alot of people seem to love it. Maybe if I go not expecting much ill come back loving it. Maybe

ass soup and white jizz   .. I can see a pattern here   ... you must have gone to the famous Hungarian "Buzi"  restaurant

by and large Hungarian people are friendly , Maybe they just knew your views on Europeans and took a dislike to you ;)

I am amazed you came to that conclusion donnie! i take it you never went to tonys suggestion sir lancelot the medieval place? the food there is anything but boring! the food was lovely and there is a large selection. we found this argentinian steak house which was gauchos but much cheaper. steak was excellent.

the people were very friendly with us, i find teh french teh rudest and vilest people i have come across. most unhelpful people ever.

if you go again get tony to advise you, he helped me greatly and i cant fault budapest. will dfe love to go again

Yeah loved the place.

The river front where Buda meets Pest is beautiful, loved Szechenyi thermal bath and made my debut at the opera.

Szimpla ruin bar was outstanding too.

We had our wedding reception at the Marriott hotel on the water front there  .. the balcony looked out on to the Palace and church all lit up at night   ..it's a sight that never gets boring  (imo)

it's just sooo bloody cold there  in the winter  .. we celebrated New years eve in the square there one year and I swear we had to put the champagne in a fridge to warm it up :)

Looking for a last minute trip at the end of the month.orignally planned to spend the week working on our house but as it's currently a damp shell we've had to replan and it seems rude not to explore. Have found flights and hotel for landing midnight on a Tuesday and coming back Friday evening for £200. I've heard it's like Prague?

Any best recommendations for things to see/do for 3 and a half days? And what are we looking spending money if we are exploring round in the day, meal and a few drinks each evening as well as travel around the city? Would be landing just after midnight so taxi from the airport?

Budapest is a lot better than Prague in my opinion. I found there is more to do in buda. It's a very easy city to get around. It's pretty cheap for food definitely. Like has been said on this thread many times make sure you go sir Lancelotgot picked up so can't help with cabs maybe ask mr Budapest @tonyh29 ? He was very helpful with when I went :)

it's become more expensive over the years due to the number of tourists but also become more regulated as a result .. in the old days a cab at the airport meant you get charged whatever the taxi driver thought he could get away with , now it's all controlled and you'll be told the amount before you even get in the cab .

you can do the shared minibus pickups if you're on a budget  though

Cabs in the town might be where you get fleeced though , best bet is to buy a Budapest card and get the travel all sorted on tram and metro

I'm assuming with the Mrs rather than a lads do ? therefore go up to the castle district and wander around up there , Matthias church, Fishermans Bastion etc wont cost you a lot  and will give you the best views of the Danube and the parliament ...  you can take the Funicular Railway up the hill and walk down ...make sure you go inside the Matthias church

across the river you've got the Parliament building and the basilica  , both worth some time ... the number 2 tram runs along the water front from Parliament and if you get off when you see various boats there that will one or two that do little trips up and down the Danube

Heroes' square is another place to head to (on the yellow metro line) very pleasant around there , park area  , zoo etc

Margaret Island is always popular , its in the middle of the river , pedestrian only zone , park , small petting zoo and it has a decent lido that you can spend some time soaking up the rays in

Gellert baths are the more famous spa , was segregate male and female when I went there so that night not work , but there are lots of other thermal spas to look out for  ... if you walk up the hill slightly from the Gellert there is an underground church in a cave that is quite interesting ... the walk back over the bridge and you'll come to the Great Market , used to be for locals but is now mainly for tourists ,  opposite the market you'll see a restaurant called "For Sale pub "  nice food in there reasonably cheap and sometimes has live music  ,from there you'll also see Vaci utca which is an interesting touristy type street with bars and restaurants to stroll down  ... half way down is the Fatal restaurant , has lots of traditional Hungarian food  including the Soup in bread and Pork Knuckle , huge portions  ( the Sir Lancelot Dem mentioned  might be more for a group of lads rather than just a quiet meal , but saying that I do go there with mrs H and the kids , You'll most likely need to book to go there though)

there's more of course but hopefully gives you a very rough idea
