Can someone explain how Bournemouth have 3 games on free to air yet we are one of 5 teams to have none?

The BBC gets last pick. Sky and BT pay thePL loads more dosh, so get first and second pick

So why are they going to get the biggest audiences?

As has been said, Sky and BT pay £££ to get their pick. A Bournemouth match would bring in far fewer viewers for them than most other teams.

It also wouldn't be particularly fair on customers who've paid a lot of money for their services to be provided with matches that are far less appealling because the bigger games have switched to free-to-air TV.

Could go in the racism in football thread but here is just as good

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jun/29/groundbreaking-report-reveals-racial-bias-in-english-football-commentary

Quote

Racial bias is a clear and significant problem in English football commentary, according to a groundbreaking study that found players with lighter skin are regularly and overwhelmingly praised for intelligence, work ethic and quality compared with those with darker skin, who are reduced to physical and athletic attributes.

The study has been carried out by RunRepeat, a Danish research firm, and is the first aimed at understanding whether the football media talks differently about players depending on their skin tone. More than 2,000 statements from commentary on 80 games across the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1 were analysed.

In possibly the most unsurprising story in recent times. Danny Murphy has criticized City players for giving Liverpool a guard of honour saying its a load of nonsense.

Cheerful clearing in the woods as ever

Watching Wayne Rooney's Derby County vs N Forest. Pundits spend the first 15 min talking about how Rooney having that positive effects on Derby. Then our Joe scored a Worldy, after they spend the next 15 mins talking about how shit Rooney is playing.

This whole thing where certain people seem to think giving another club a guard of honour is somehow a humiliation is something I cannot fathom.  I think it's increased in recent times because Real Madrid refused to give Barcelona one a couple of years ago, but it's utter bullshit.  We all say we love the game, football is a game.  Yes, we play to win (or at least we are supposed to) but extending a courtesy to the champions is the right thing to do.  You'll see boxers and MMA fighters hammer the living shit out of each other for 5/10/12 rounds and embrace after the event, the fact that a footballer cannot do the same in some people's eyes just does not compute with me.  Is it a way of demonstrating passion or determination to the slower members of the human race who cannot separate the difference between before, during and after an event? Something else?  Is it okay to give the champions a guard of honour if you are third in the league or lower when it happens? If you aren't local or political rivals?

Why are pundits some of the most miserable people in the world? They’re getting paid a lot of money to watch games of football.

Souness on the villa game today is embarrassing. Any chance to have a moan about one thing or another and he takes hit.

Generally, because positivity isn't great for getting those all so precious social media interaction hits up.  Watching Souness or Keane launch themselves into another angina-inducing rant about something or other seems to be what gets the views, and thus this is what we get treated to on a regular basis.

One of the gaming youtubers I watch a bit of did a video about this a few months back - video games he likes and praise often got one eighth the viewing figures compared to the ones he's tearing a new one.

I guess people just enjoy watching other people "telling it like it is" and just rendering everything as "shit".  (Also it's easy to point out that things are bad, rather than why things are bad; conjuring solutions to problems often involves long and lengthy discussions about multiple interlocking issues with no easy answer in sight - at least one that stands up to a decent amount of scrutiny I suppose).

Media in general not just football

Feeds off anger, spouts shite to rile people, the worst of it being its really easy and lazy to do

Not sure any pundit on UK TV is capable of changing my negative opinion on a player but most of them are capable a good player is actually shit

It's not really fair that they just have Carragher as co--commentator on Liverpool games either.  They could at least have a Villa voice on as well like Dublin or McInally.  Dion especially seems like he actually enjoys watching football.

Carragher shouldnt be allowed to commentate on any game. punditry is tolerable but 90 minutes of squeaking slowly battering your eardrum
