I would think that most of the other muted targets, Carroll, Defoe, Rhodes are out of our price range - so it might be jones or nothing. No point, go out and buy someone on the continent, Lukaku on loan would have been ideal. If we buy Jones and he eventually goes very stale we'll be stuck with a big enough earner who is not prolific. Whilst it would be nice to have two strikers that had the potential to score 20 goals a season, when does this ever happen? What Jones would bring is something we really missed on Saturday someone to hold the ball up, someone who could the bring the wide men into play to maximise Bents chances of scoring that 20 goals. And if Jones could pitch in with 8-10 goals then that would be great. He's no worldy but he's still a decent footballer and better than Delfouneso and he'd hold the ball up better than Weimann. He took a pay cut to move from Sunderland to Stoke so he can't be on too much. I doubt he was on massive wages at Sunderland to start with. Carol is too expensive, and Defoe would appear to be staying at Spurs. Anything less than 5m would be good business, and if we could use Hutton to offset 2m of that then happy days.
