General, would there be a possibilty of looking into arranging a friendly with my local League of Ireland side Derry City.

Martin went to College here and attended a Uefa Cup game here a couple of months ago and is highly regarded through his Celtic connection.

Man Utd,Liverpool and Barcelona have played friendlies here and I sincerely believe there is a wealth of support to be gained through this venture.

I of course would bene fit from seeing the Villans playing down the road, but believe the club could also benefit in the long run.

5. The training ground will be SUPERB and something that will be the envy of the league. Beautiful new building...state of the art from a training standpoint. An indoor pitch that will be fantastic. We will all be very proud of where our lads train.

Whats the latest with the training ground, its been a while since we've had an update as to how the work is going? When is it likely to be finalised? And any chance of arranging tours of the place at a small cost or even free :D

General,

Whilst there's all this talk about kids, can I just give a word of praise to the people at the club and the work they do with local schools.

My girlfriend is a teacher at a local primary school (ages 5-11) just around the corner from Villa Park. They recieve weekly coaching from a couple of guys that work for Villa. I don't know the names unfortunately, but the kids absolutely love it.

They play matches every other Friday at the academy behind the North stand and are top of the league after two games.

It's the highlight of the school week when matchday comes, and they love the coaching. I can't tell you how much the kids appreciate the coaching and look forward to the games.

She may be an Albion fan, but several years of kids that have passed through the school have been turned into little Villains !

Well done to all involved !

General,

I just want to say that I'm not going to suggest anything, I'm just so pleased that Randy, Bob, Michael and yourself, and let's not forget Steve Stride in all this as someone with so many years of experience at the club and hopefully is helping the transition from the old to the new go smoothly, have decided to ask us supporters what we think and want from our club.

Actually, I will be cheeky and ask one thing....

That is that you, as a board, as a team, as a club, along with Martin and the staff and players that he sees fit, continue giving us our hope, our dreams, and our pride back.

Gid speed to you all sir. God speed.

Stewart

Im confused why would a director have time to come ona forum? since he must be busy all the time.

Not necessarily. The workers are paid to be 'busy' while the directors work on guiding the business, future strategy, and important projects.

It has been clear from the outset that Mr Lerner and the General regard communication with the supporters as very important. Whilst some of our suggestions on this thread have been outlandish, in the main we have given the General more good points for consideration than he would have got by holding a meeting with a room full of execs.

Correct. And I think we should be very grateful indeed that the General is here, talking to Villa fans, and doing a great job. Business is not always about time for time's sake, but about using that time wisely. I would say the General is being very wise spending time on these boards.

Greetings General,

What I would like to see is a club-appointed curator, tasked with preserving and promoting the club's history, and ideally, acquiring new artefacts when they become available. There have been numerous occassions in the last few years when items that should have been in a club museum have come up for auction. The most obvious and galling being the sale of the old English Cup to the porn pedlars at Blues.

I would gladly share my own small collection of memorabillia on a permanent loan basis if I knew it would be seen and appreciated by fellow Villa fans.

Chinn would be good for that role.

i second that.

General, please get in contact with Carl Chinn MBE. He is a fountain of all knowledge about Birmingham History and he takes a keen interest in Aston Villa as his dad was chair of the shareholders association.

Up the VILLA

General Krulak here:

1. Yes, I do have several other "jobs"....but one of the things that Randy wanted to do soonest was to start getting a sense of what the fans were feeling and thinking. As owner of the Club, he wanted to open lines of communications. I offered to try to do that. I confess, I did not expect it to be so time consuming but the value of the feedback and the suggestions are priceless. I have now just set aside about an hour a day to go onto 3 sites and communicate with the fans. Obviously, when I am on travel, I am unable to keep up with the dialogue...but I always come back on. As an example, I have to go to Washington, DC tomorrow and to Phoenix on Friday...so I will be back on Saturday. I am no different than most fans...I have responsibilities too.

2. Re. Carl Chinn....thanks for the name and idea!!

3. The training ground was put "on hold" during the sale process. It is now back in full swing. Martin has approved of the new plans...to include the indoor pitch. Hopefully we will be done sometime in the summer. We absolutely can have tours/visits once we have it done. You will be very proud of the facility...it is going to be the best in the Country.

4. I agree about Steve Stride...he is a winner. We have some very special folks at Villa Park...folks dedicated to the Club and to the Fans. Imagine working there during some of the tougher times and still staying focused and motivated. We owe them a great vote of thanks.

Semper Fidelis, General Krulak

Sorry to go press you on this matter, but do the plans for the north end of the ground consist of a complete re-development, or a refurbishment of the current stand in some way? I'm just interested to know. Cheers.

The General said on one of his posts that he cannot really discuss this on a public forum as the plans have not been submitted / approved

Spot-on. Just think how much companies pay for "ideas" from commercial advisory companies. The General is getting the best "Brainstorming" session direct from the people who know what the club needs, the fans. He is also endearing himself to us and opening up the club in a manner that is unprecidented in our history. Keep it up General! :D

He cannot say anything about it at all? Why not?

Its probably because planning permission for such projects usually have to be subject to official public scrutiny and consultation processes. To start talking prematurely and outside the official channels about such proposals could be deemed to be unnacceptable by the council and other relevant authorities

EDIT: and I know this because we've just had some success with a builder at the rear of our property who tried to circumvent the official channels in approaching us residents in a way prejudicial to any planning application

The general posting on fansites has made the press:

Villa director is listening to the fans

Booooo. Free press for the H&V slags....... :winkold:

General.....

Good, I'd like to see Steve stay on board in some capacity.

RE : Doug Ellis. What is his role at the club? I understand his title, but I'm not entirely sure what he does day to day. Also, I noticed him with a walking stick on Sunday - I wish him good health.
