lexicon Posted July 7, 2012 Share Posted July 7, 2012 I don't think McLeish wasn't strict to be honest - he seemed to be good at recognising when we were playing badly, getting annoyed at shouting at the players. I think the key really here is what you say when it isn't going right - I fear he was shouting 'play better' or 'kick it harder' or something like that. Paul Lambert seems very right for Aston Villa. Looking at our recent history of underachieving and the apathy surrounding the club following two poor managerial appointments, the general feeling is that we need fresh impetus. Paul Lambert is young and has a point to prove. This is a step up for him and you can sense his enthusiasm, he's progressive and also considered pragmatic. Really, we don't know what he's capable of, but we're not in a position to be demanding high profile managers or sexy football, because it wouldn't be appropriate for the club, which is (looking objectively) is in a mess. I'm confident he'll get the backing of the fans and be given time. villanfromluton Posted July 7, 2012 Share Posted July 7, 2012 I am more confident now than I have been since about 10 months before MON left when the cracks appeared to show in his relationship with the chairman. Paul Lambert seems to have the backing of both the fans and the owner, seems to be able to find players and seems to be able to put together a team playing good football. I am not expecting miracles and will be happy with better football on show and an improvement on last season. We've signed one player from League One and one from the Dutch league. Neither of them is at all guaranteed to be a success. This is an incredible club, steeped in history and tradition and I feel honoured and privileged to be manager. There is no doubt that an integral part of what I want to do here is to get the crowd going and to make Villa Park a vibrant, intimidating and exciting environment. On my first day here I was taken around Villa Park and I was able to appreciate for the first time the sheer scale of the stadium. It is instantly impressive and, if we work hard and get the place going, I believe we can make this club as successful as we all want it to be. We have some exciting, young players at this football club and we have some very accomplished and experienced players, too. They will need a hand throughout the course of the coming campaign and in the opening week of the summer transfer window we have welcomed three new players in Brett Holman, Karim El Ahmadi and Matt Lowton. With his experience at club and international level, Karim will improve our squad and Brett should do the same, while Matt has the potential to be a really good player. From my first few weeks here, I get the sense there is a really good feeling around the Club and it is this kind of positive mood that we want to carry into the season and then throughout the campaign. As soon as you walk in the door you know you’re at a big club and this challenge is one I am really looking forward to taking on. I am not daunted by it, I’m determined to embrace it and, as a Club, this must be our attitude going forward. After we play Burton Albion on Saturday, we will be headed to the US for games against Philadelphia Union, Chicago Fire and Portland Timbers, all of which will be available on AVTV. We will play further games at Peterborough, Nottingham Forest and Werder Bremen, then the season will kick off in earnest at West Ham. I don't think anyone is saying he did write it, we all know we have a PR team for this kind of thing. Says all the right things, but every letter/email to the fans does. Optamistic for the comming season and really looking forward to seeing where we are in a few years, but no more so after reading the email.
