Rename the West Midlands county?

The 'West Midlands' is an ambiguous term at present.

It could refer to the West Midlands county - Birmingham, Solihull, Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Coventry.

Or it could refer to the West Midlands region - Staffordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and the West Midlands county.

The region name is correct since if you split the Midlands in half you have the West Midlands and the East Midlands.

So why don't we just rename the county to the name it should be - Greater Birmingham.

I know the Black Country has a separate identity and all that but let's be honest, nobody has heard of the Black Country outside these parts.

If the Yam Yams are really that unhappy about being part of Greater Birmingham then there is an alternative.

We tell Coventry to go back to Warwickshire (where they belong) and we rename the county to Birmingham & Black Country.

As long as the word Birmingham is in there then it's all good.

An easy solution to this confusing problem.

I'm not confused. What problem are you trying to solve?

If I were to say to you, 'is Stoke in the West Midlands?' what would you say?

I'd say that's bollocks, because it's in Staffordshire.

Reminds me of Mike Whitby (Birmingham [Ex?]Council Leader) suggesting that Aston Villa should be called Birmingham Villa, so avoid confusion about where they're from..

Not sure why it's an issue.. you know where West Midlands is.. Midlands, and West of that. So if you're at East Midlands airport, you're a bit too far to the East.

I know there's a whole thing about Birmingham not shouting about itself and what it's achieved and can offer, but I don't think there's a great deal of confusion about where to find it..

And which region of the country is Stoke in?
