Does Villa Attract Asian Fans?

Slightly OT........

Heck anyone just watched Panaroma about Euro 2012 and the Asian fans studying in Ukraine?

They decided to all go & watch a game... Not a good decision because everyone just stood and watched while the Ultras moved into the "family stand" and decided to beat up on them and eject the Asians in their own way! The Asian fans were supporting the SAME team as well!

Just sickening and having got friends and clients who are Asian supporting Villa fans I'd hope that evey supporter was as disgusted watching these cowards as I was.

One so called Ultra openly stood at the front of the stand & gave the Nazi salute. The police & Stewards just stood and watched an did nothing just escort the Asians to get some very basic medical help, then they were on their own.

Panorama played the video for Sol Campbell and he was appalled.

Just told people to stay away from the Euros and watch it all on TV.

Article is from 2009 sure there was a thread about this back then.

Anyway i think VP has its share of asians who attend games. Like all all communities you get glory supporters.

You will see as many asians at VP as afro-Caribbean’s.

One good way to get new supporters in, specially from the local community, is to keep working with the schools and give them tickets, once the children and parents realise that its a pretty safe environment they fears will be relaxed.

In my experience in my family we have loads of local fans from SHA, Cov, Baggies, Wolves, Derby, Leeds etc. There are a fair few Lpool and Utd fans too but as said before just like any other community.

As for asian players in the professional leagues my opinion is if you are good enough you will get picked, i would be blind to stay there is no discrimination but i dnt think its as bad people make out. With the amount of money in the game these days clubs can’t afford to turn good players away for their ethnicity.

And if all else fails spread the word about the famous balti pies and they will come flocking to VP.

One reason could be that there is no heritage to their support? They pretty much have a free for all in who they choose to support. For me (and many of us I assume) one of the major reasons i support Villa is my family. My dad, granddad all support Villa.

For many of the asian population [i assume] that is not the case, they can choose whoever they like without any emotional ties to a particular team, some of those who were not born in England may not even particularly feel the 'support my local team' thing either.

I also imagine that football clubs, like anything you do as a youngster that sets you apart from the rest, opens you to ridicule and I guess it's possible bullying. Again imagine that some people may choose a 'safe' option in Liverpool, Utd and in the coming years Chelsea or City as there is less chance of them being picked on as children (maybe? seems awfully sad if that is a reason)

I imagine if I had no local team and my family were not bothered who I supported (or possibly didnt care about the sport) that theres a chance I could have supported somebody other than Villa.

That said, yes we do get asian supporters. I usually sit in the lower holte when I go to games and there are always Asian fans there

Holidaying in Hong Kong at the moment...and there was a large number of villa home and away kits at the Nike store at city gate outlets....and people were buying them! They did not have a sponsor on them though....

Do other Brum(and surrounds) clubs not have balti pies given that Brum is the curry capital?

Leicester City Football Club also have Balti Pies.

I've had a balti pie at Wolves and Old Trafford and both were nasty!

Why does it matter what colour a footballer is in relation to a role model? Is that not racist if you ignore role models of other races and only look for your own to lead the way.

Brain Lara is a role model for many fans of cricket did that stop white English ex pata from going to watch him play?

I'm not sure sikhs would liked to be grouped with Muslims either as the title of this thread appears to do so. No offence to the OP.

It's all down to money we have hardely any new young fans of any race coming to watch its too much money for week in and out support and we are also a boring team who does nothing.
