A pregnant ex-girlfriend of Aston Villa footballer Gabriel Agbonlahor has been accused of harassing the mother of one of his children by posting ‘distressing’ messages on Facebook.

Sophie Smith allegedly used a pseudonym to send Elizabeth Wheeler a 'considerable number' of 'distressing' messages via the social networking site between November 2008 and May this year, a court has heard.

Smith, of Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands, has appeared before magistrates in Walsall charged with sending a false message by the public communication network to cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety.

The 25-year-old, who is 36 weeks' pregnant, is understood to have strenuously denied the claims but has yet to enter an official plea to the charges.

Smith is the childhood sweetheart of the millionaire footballer and began dating him in 2003, before they later split.

She was represented in court by solicitor Michael O’Mahoney and did not enter a plea.

Mr O’Mahoney said it was alleged Smith had sent 'a considerable number' of messages and that there was 'also a suggestion of stalking and harassment'.

Magistrates granted Smith bail on the condition that she has no contact with either Miss Wheeler or Tia Hithersay, another of Agbonlahor's former girlfriends.

She was also ordered not to go to an address in Streetly, West Midlands, and not to use social network sites Facebook and Twitter under pseudonyms, JPs were told.

Smith is due back before the court on July 24.

Miss Wheeler is the mother of Agbonlahor's four-year-old son and has previously used Twitter account to talk about the father of her child.

After Villa lost to Chelsea at Villa Park in March, she wrote: 'Seeing my baby on the pitch wiv my hubby yday was one of the proudest moments of my life, cried like a baby only in front of 40,000 ppl.'

Miss Wheeler is said to have met the England striker on a 2006 'lads' holiday’ in Greece.

Agbonlahor has also previously dated ex-air stewardess and underwear model Ms Hithersay - who is a friend of Ms Wheeler on Twitter.

The tangled web we weave!

Gabby and Bent in theory would possibly be the most terrifying strike force in the league. Pace and movement, for 90 minutes.

Thats the sort of thing you'd read in Shoot magazine

In reality Gabby is terrible at linking up with another forward. Add to that he's clearly lost his pace and was never very good at running the channels.

just read he has 8 goals in 58 games, terrible record for a forward and definitely in last chance saloon

He has scored 50 goals for Villa in the Premier League.

Only Dwight Yorke has done the same.

He's in good company is our Gabby.

True but how many games did it take him to score 50?

First team debut in 1990, he stayed with the club until 1998 so 8 years. Gabby, on the other hand, has scored the same amount in 6 years.

Yorke's highest ever goal tally for Villa was 20 in 1996/1997, Agbonlahor's so far has been 16 in 2009/2010.

Yorke had 80 goals in 244 games

Gabby has 61 goals in 252 games

However as previously stated Yorke was a substitute in a lot of his early seasons and only got 27 goals in 6 years, 53 of Yorkies goals came in his last 3 seasons.

Yorke basically scored as many goals in 3 seasons as Gabby has scored in 6 full seasons.

There is no comparison, Yorke was class. Gabby is at best average

Gabby is of course not in Yorke's class, but you of course fail to point out that 50 if not more of Gabby's appearances have been on the wing, but that wouldn't have made your stats so damning would it.

Gabby cant finish even when he is through the middle, when he plays an entire season through the middle his goal return is barely double figures.

He is just not a very good striker and he is certainly not a winger either. I wouldnt lose too much sleep if he left

I think he created and scored more than anybody else though, didn't he?

Bent scored more than Gabby last season, not sure about assists though. It probably was Gabby with about 6 assists I think?

I read somewhere Gabby had 7 assists and 5 goals, 12 points combined. Bent 9 goals 1 assist, 10 points combined. Putting gabby top. I (very roughly) worked out the ratios for a few in the squad calculating their combined points per game. I had Bent top, Gabby second.
