The ruling was made at London’s High Court following proceedings brought by HM Revenue and Customs. The 6ft 5in Norwegian international — who earned £40,000 a week at former club Aston Villa — is believed to owe a six-figure sum. You have to have extremely poor money management to be making that much and manage to spend it all. What the hell does he spend it all on (besides women)? rosenthal Posted May 9, 2012 Share Posted May 9, 2012 Six-figure sum isn't a problem for Carew, bankrupt doesn't necessarily mean he's out of money, he sits on appartments valued at £10m in Oslo. The court declare him bankrupt to seize control of his finances, after a disagrement about how much tax he still owe after the Villa transfer from Lyon. Carew said that he has much more than that in capital and can easily pay the money, but the lawyer was late with the paperwork, hence they declared him bankrupt. Carew and the laywer is claiming the sum is around 300.000 euros. He also said that Lyon had given him the impression that he didn't need to worry about tax estimation - that it was taken care of, so he was surprised when he got a letter in the mail about 18 months ago.
