we desperately need someone who can take set pieces or a free kick specialist... that Bale fella is known as a free kick specialist and is a left back.. may be a good bet.

I think if we get a decent free kick/corner taker it may add 5-10 goals extra per season.

How many have we wasted... especially in the last few weeks..

Speaking of Celtic links Shunsuke Nakamura is an attacking mifielder and he is a free kick specialist and a left footer. KSV I agree that a set piece specialist is required as we have missed one big time since Nobby left.

Never been impressed with Nakamura myself. Whenever i've seen him play he's offered nothing in a match. Sure he cracks some great free kicks in now and again. But i want a player who can influence a game for 90 mins. Don't want another hitzlsperger thank you...

i reckon we could be the mystery english club in for vanden borre, tottenham have been linked as the mystery club and that is believable, but he would be a good signing for us, an attacking full back and could play on the right wing.

boussoufa for anderlecht is meant to be a real quality player as well

he won belgian player of the year, belgian young player of the year and the belgian ebony shoe this year.

i think hes 21, looks a great prospect

and i think nakamura will go to spain if he leaves celtic

I spoke with someone close to the Tottenham board yesterday who doesn't say too much but he advised me that Defoe wouldn't be going anywhere. The likelihood for them is "one in during the transfer window and not much out"

He was a little less firm about Keane, but the impression that I got was that he is more likely to leave them at the end of the season which, given his current lack of fitness, makes sense.

Maloney is that player. He is really good at dead ball situations.

Boss targets striker Fri, Dec 22 2006 13:44

Reports suggest that Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has entered the race to sign Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka.

The Australian international is out of contract at the end of the season, and admits he is not sure if he will be offered a new contract to stay on at the Riverside.

Viduka told Sky Sports: "I don't know to be honest about my own future.

"There's been no approach from the club towards me for any sort of renegotiation. So it's all up in the air at the moment."

It is now being reported that O'Neill sees Viduka as the ideal player to bolster this thin squad and add some much needed fire-power, and an offer in the region of £2million could be on its way to the Riverside in January.

Viduka

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has revealed he hopes to land a mixture of long and short term deals in the January transfer window.

The Irishman is expected to be one of the big spenders in the new year, as he finally gets to spend some of new owner Randy Lerner's fortune.

O'Neill told the club website: "I have two trains of thought really. If I can get the quality of player to be a healthy part of the team and improve it for the next four years in January, then that's what I'll do.

"There might be other short term things that might have to tide us over. We won't be the only club looking at that.

"Just don't hold me to it. I'm going full bloodedly to try and improve the team one way or the other."

"Ideally, I'd prefer someone who has the capabilty of playing Premiership football and who has, or is, playing Premiership football. But it doesn't mean I'd be so tunnel-visioned as to be making other things unavailable just because of that.

"The foreign players who have done well here have done so because they are very good footballers. There have been a lot of foreign players who haven't made the grade here. But I'd hope to have done enough homework on someone that might be capable, regardless where he's from."

Not sure how reliable the two sites are but i don't rate Viduka at aall and think we could do ALOT better.

if he was a short term solution and we couldn't get the strikers we want until the summer, i wouldn't mind him until the end of the season

but it obviously wouldn't be at the cost of 2 million, thats daylight robbery, especially as hes out of contract soon.

I don't think Viduka would be a long term solution, he is getting on a bit now. But he would do well as the CF in our 4-3-3 if we go back to that when Moore is fit. If he is just in the squad to compete for the CF spot for a couple of seasons there is no problems here. Provided MON and Randy are committed to signing a better striker in the summer that is.

Don't rate Viduka personally, and certainly not at £2m.

Have to trust MON and his judgement, but if it is Viduka and he scored 10/12 goals by the end of the season, getting us in the top 6, it would be good business, providing the price was right.
