Beckham fans will follow him wherever, imagine how many young girls in the far east who will buy Beckham shirts, putting Villa on the map, and all the media attention on him all over the world. Villa wouldn't know what hit it IMO.

The young girls in the far east doesn't have money to buy official merchandise. They will buy local copies instead. And I don't want the club to attract Beckham fans. Let's recruit Aston Villa fans instead.

You sure?

If we sold more shirts in 1 week in Japan or whatever than this club sells in 2 seasons who cares who buys them it's all money and we might get some permanent new supporters too + lets not forget the guy is a fantastic footballer, better than anyone at the club anyway.

You sure?

Yes, they have all told me that.

Hmmm, I wonder how Man U and Real make any money then??

We might as well give up then, not bother selling shirts at all as copies can be obtained anywhere these days!

Anyhow back on topic, I'd love Beckham cos he's a great footballer above all else.

I'm afraid if we're going where we want to as a club then you can expect all kinds of new fans, like it or not it happens to all successful clubs.

I don't think there's any chance of Beckham coming to Villa.

It'd be Ginola, all over again, only he'd sell a few more shirts.

Face it, the Beckham bubble's burst. He's not getting the exposure he used to, he hardly even plays for his club side, and it won't be long before his endorsements dry up. He'll be on reality TV next.

The only use he'd be a VP is if Victoria "I haven't had a boob job - oh, actually I have really, oh and I haven't got an eating disorder.....etc" did a turn holding the corner flag up.

Do you really think MON would want him? I think he's got far more nous and wants the up and coming players.

There's more chance of his missus having a critically acclaimed album than Beckham coming to VP.

yes please, with cherry on top. We all complain about no creativity or no free kick specialist, yet here is a guy that has a demoned right foot cross, argubly still one of the best in the world and also he's a free kick specialist.........some of you need to wake up and smell the coffee.......yes circus around him, yes stupid wages.....but so many here talk about the next level or the big signing, yet you dont want the media attention or pay stupid wages....we need a statement to the premiership of our intent (I dont mean chelsea intent) but for $4m and three year contract of $100k a week, giving a total package of ~$20m or Darren Bent $15m plus $40k per week for three years $21m, I'd take Beckham. Proven record, played at the highest level....or a one season wonder so far.........and then the revenue Beckham would bring in, the status he would rise the club and then other big player see him coming and we have more chance of getting them.....remember Gullit at Chelsea.....so yes to Beckham

What kind of revenue would Beckham bring in?

And your figures don't match up. Beckham £20m for three seasons. Bent £21m for three seasons. However, Bent would still have a value three years from now. Beckham wont.

Exactly my figures dont match up, Beckham would be cheaper and is proven talent, thats what I was trying to prove that value for money was better.......

Bent will still have value, yeah but how much....what if he is a one season wonder??? how much money would we have lost, whereas you know Beckham will bring in instant revenue from shirt sales and increased crowd attention.....so for me beckham is a better value for money based on risk.

Also yes Real have a global fan base, but we dont have a real global fan base, Beckham would bring a new type of supporter and whether you like it or not, that type brings revenue because Beckhams fans buy goods.

oh yeah, and Beckham has talent.....and how much you talk about about him losing a lot of his talent, it's certainly better than the majority of our current team....I'd love anybody to tell me that if Beckham was in our squad how he would not get a game if he was fit, how our current squad is????????

Bazdavies79,

How could I be sure of that? It was a stupid answer to an unanswerarble question. It was of course my opinion. Your opinion is that we will sell twice the number we otherwise would sell worldwide without Beckham in Japan alone. I accept it as your opinion, but I think you don't know what you are talking about. I suspect you haven't done any research regarding this, and I suspect you don't even know the number of shirts that is to be multiplied by two which would then be our new Japanese sales target. And I don't think you know what our profit per shirt is either. So I don't ask if you are sure if we would really reach that target, as I know you don't know the answer.

This is going OT. I don't think Beckham would be so profitable for this club as you suggest, because if he signed for us we wouldn't have the distribution channels open to us to make sure we took advantage of it. But then again, it's only my opinion, which you are free to ask questions about.

I'm totally with Baz on this one. Sure, many who buys Beks-shirts do buy local copies but many buy the original stuff too. It's obvious. Cause if not Real wouldn't have made such profit from him as they have. His name has somewhat fallen but he's still a big name which brings loads of new fans from all over the world and if he ends his career at Villa I think we have got a great deal new fans all over the world who'll stay Villans. That's the financial part of it. Those who don't think he'll do a job for us I think should take another thinking. He's still a very good player and the kind of player you could fit in somewhere in almost every team even though not very pacey. I'd love him here. Doubt it'll happen, though.

It will take more than the vaguest guesswork article in the Guardian to make me think SWP would choose Newcastle over us.

No way. Not now.

We can most likely match or better their wages.

And ask yourself, Newcastle or Birmingham? MON or Rat-Man? Big future or Trophy signing, debt ridden idiots?

If he chooses Newcastle over us, we dont really want him as that will mean he's as thick as a whale omelette.

at the moment it looks like we may struggle to convince a young player at watford who has played in the prem for 6 months and a bloke at chelsea who would rather sit on the bench there than to come to us so i think the chances of convincing beckham to join are quite slim.
