From the sun DAVID BECKHAM intends to defy Real Madrid’s ultimatum that he sign a new deal or leave. The Spanish giants have finally snapped and are threatening to put midfield ace Becks up for sale as part of a January clearout if he does not commit to the club by next week. But sources close to Beckham, 31, insist he will not be cornered. And he will refuse to go in the transfer window, whatever the outcome of next week’s showdown. Real have offered him a two-year extension on his current £100,000-a-week deal. The club’s sporting director Pedrag Mijatovic has now told Beckham he needs an answer. Mijatovic said: “A few months ago we presented an offer to extend Beckham’s contract that reflected his importance as a football player and as a marketing image. “He asked me for time to think about it. But we don’t have time — we have to decide now.†The ex-England skipper, who has started just seven of Real’s last 25 matches, is considering a string of offers from the Premiership, Italy, France and USA. Under-fire Real boss Fabio Capello believes Becks’ stalling has contributed to a bad atmosphere in the dressing room. Not to mention the crosses and through balls he could play. I think he's got another 2/3 years at the top before he loses his legs. He's always been a very fit energetic player. If he came to villa imagine all the press coverage at games, it wouldnt be about villa it would be all about David Beckham it would do my head in. If he does need to play football somewhere as a part-time job (his main job obviously is to promote the Beckham brand), let him do it elsewhere. We all complain about no creativity or no free kick specialist, yet here is a guy that has a demoned right foot cross, argubly still one of the best in the world and also he's a free kick specialist.........some of you need to wake up and smell the coffee.......yes circus around him, yes stupid wages.....but so many here talk about the next level or the big signing, yet you dont want the media attention or pay stupid wages....we need a statement to the premiership of our intent (I dont mean chelsea intent) but for $4m and three year contract of $100k a week, giving a total package of ~$20m or Darren Bent $15m plus $40k per week for three years $21m, I'd take Beckham.
