Lampard got screwed over a bit really, asked to build a team around emerging talent last season which he did relatively okay, then for some reason they signed a bunch of players they didn’t need and so many in the same kind of position - Ziyech, Havertz, Werner, all additional to Mount, Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi.

They should have focused on signing a quality keeper, centre back and perhaps a centre mid in the summer

They signed all those aswell, Mendy (although he dosen't really look world class but better than Kepa), Silva (old but good still), Chilwell (was excellent v us and in other games but like a few signings had several injuries) and havertz who I really enjoyed watching for Leverkusen last season. Havertz is box to box/attacking midfield but that's the problem, they've already got Mount there who's a Lampard favourite.

Lampard just took too long to figure it all out. Did think he'd get the home games v Wolves and Burnley and they'd sack him if they didn't win both but guess they were waiting for Tuchel to commit.

They certainly should be much higher in the league, currently they're on course to barely get 60 points over the whole season when you could well need 70 points to get 4th this year so way down on what they need.

Is he not responsible for these signings then? Does he just rock up to training every morning and wonder if any new faces will be coming in?

For the amount that has been spent he needs to be doing better and he has obviously had his part to play in the 200 million worth of flops they've signed this summer. He never had any real clue where to put players, Kante was off playing wide right for a bit to accommodate Jorginho of all people. A sideways passing traffic cone of a footballer.

Well I doubt he was the driving force in the signings though I could be wrong

They brought Barkley when Conte was manager. He didn't want him but had no say in the matter apparently

Lol. Nice guy, completely out of his depth. Should have been an assistant manager for a few years before the big job. Wasnt ready.

Or stayed at Derby. I think Terry has been very clever in this regard. Management, just like playing take years of practice, and failure. Would Smith be the manager he is today without his experience at Brentford and Walsall?

The stories in the media suggest that Chilwell was definitely a Lampard signing and he has also pushed hard for them to sign Declan Rice, but the club didn't want to resign an academy cast off. Apart from that I think the signings at Chelsea are largely arranged by the hierarchy and the manager is expected to work with what he is given. Normally not difficult when you are given some of the best players in the world to work with, but Lampard made it look like hard work. Chilwell has done very well to be fair, as have the players Lampard has promoted from the academy. Failure to get consistent performances out of Werner, Havertz, Ziyech, Pulusic and Kepa for incredible transfer fees has cost him his job.

It's Marina Granovskaia who has first and final say on what players Chelsea signs and been a lot of rumors about her and Lampard not agreeing on who to sign.

supposedly she's fed up with him begging to sign Declan Rice and thinking that he's not getting the best out of the players he has.

i disagree

he turns up at training every day and then pulls tomori to one side, or hudson odoi, or abraham and has a little whisper in their ear about not playing at the weekend but having a good week in training and they'll be playing next week or then when the ball comes to them in this position rather than do this he wants them to try and do that instead and they have it go through their head about him being a chelsea and england legend, really respectible figure in english football, someone they look up to and they get a bit of a buzz about it and take on board his comments

he now pulls havertz, werner, thiago silva to one side and does the same...yeah alright then pal, whatever you say, you think thiago silva will give a shit what frank lampard did for chelsea?

its a complete different thing, one that he obviously cant do but not that many managers actually can

i obviously dont think he'd have said no to anyone but i doubt the signings were his

United kept their finger away from the trigger when Ole had some bad runs but now they sit top of the league and going well in Europa and FA Cups.

If he can keep adding and building then who knows.

Chelsea  still haven’t learned that all managers will have bad spells, you can’t just keep sacking them and expected a period of stable success.

The Government has come under pressure from MPs to impose sanctions on Roman Abramovich and Alisher Usmanov after detained Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny called for action against them.

Chelsea owner Abramovich and former Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov, who now has ties to Everton, were last week named by Navalny among those who should be targeted by the West in a bid to curb human-rights abuses by Russia, although the pair have always insisted their businesses are legitimate enterprises.
