"Club 12" from Glasgow

Rangers will never be allowed to move to the English league and quite rightly too, if they move then Celtic will want to, as will motherwell, as will hearts etc etc.

Scudamore came out and said recently that its for English and Welsh clubs only and that's that. Personally i don't think Welsh clubs should be allowed in either but hey ho.

Having said that, imo i think the league cup should be done away with. Its a half arsed cup where half arsed clubs field half arsed teams in front of empty stadiums. And in its place should be brought in a sort of home nations cup where English league clubs, Scottish prem 1,2 and 3 clubs and Welsh prem clubs can all enter. It'd give a tired old cup competition a lift and football in this country something fresh. Imagine villa get berwick or inverness away, it'd be great for teams like that in terms of revenue and great for us for a day out.

It'll never ever happen like but ah well

think the difference with the Welsh clubs is they were invited a long time ago and the likes of Swansea and Cardiff have done their time down in bottom of the leagues and worked their way up.

If Celtic or Rangers started in the lowest divisions and worked their way up am sure fans wouldnt mind them joining and would respect them

what are the proposed changes to the league structure?

The jist is they're going from the current 4 tier 12-10-10-10 format to a new 3 tier 12-12-18 with bells and whistles on.

After the 22 games in each of the top 2 tiers, those tiers would split into a new 3 tier 8-8-8 format with the top 8 from tier one going into the top league to play each other home and away again and continue on with their points from phase one.

The 4 bottom tier one sides and 4 top tier 2 sides go into the new 2nd tier and play each other twice with their points being reset (obviously). This effectively becomes the promotion/relegation league for the following season (which, if Rangers came up this season, they could become a part of, making them eligible for promotion to top tier the season after).

The bottom 8 from the original tier 2 would play each other home and away again in the 3rd tier to decide who goes down to the 18-team national league.

I see now the Swiss are urging the Scots not to do it because they ditched it 10 years ago and attendances are up 50% since they reverted to a 10 team league.

I'm going to assume the reason they play here is there was no Welsh league at the time of the clubs formation as well.

correct, same reason Aberdare were an english league team and did quite well briefly

the formation of a welsh national league was quite late on and was a device to counter african nations suggesting we have one GB football team thus preventing committee men at the FAW getting freebie trips to Estonia and Azerbaijan and the like

what a bizarre and funny story, rangers player francisco sandaza got a phonecall from a celtic fan pretending to be an MLS based football agent, who got him to disclose how much he earns and if he would leave rangers for the MLS and basically rubbish  rangers as a club, the converstation can be heard here

rangers have suspended the player, on full pay until theyve finished there investigation.

heres a newspaper report on the story
