06/07 v 05/06 Comparison - After week 38 (SEASON OVER)

BOF

Recommended Posts

Blackburn game added.

Week 12 last season was a 2-0 home defeat against Liverpool. We visit another Scouse opponent in Everton this coming weekend. Everton remain unbeaten at home despite winning only 1 of their last 7 Premiership games. This will be a mighty tricky game again this season as proved last season.

The trip to Goodison in 05/06 was one of our heaviest defeats when we went down 4-1. The game only memorable from a Villa point of view because of a debut goal for a certain Gabriel Agbonlahor.

More of the same please Gabs.

1-0 at Goodison with a debut goal by Sutton! Bet if you asked anyone if they thought a) Sutton could play Villa and B) be in 4th spot this time last year, you would have been told you were completely drunk :)

Ten points clear of last season's total at this point.

Week 14 last season saw us winning 1-0 at home against Charlton. These would be our only consecutive victories of the season in 05/06, and we only won one of our next 6 games after the Charlton game.

Last season week 15 was a 1-1 draw up at t'Barcodes. This time around we have a midweek home tie against Citeh. We lost 1-0 at home to Man Citeh last season and the attendance was no better than the result - it was our lowest attendance of the season at a miserable 26,422.

If we compare the attendances of games played this year against those SAME games last year there is a 7.7% increase in attendance.

Last season our average for our 7 home games would have been 31,515. This season it is 33,928. If you then remember that our overall average last season ended up at 34,112 (a shift of nearly 3,000 in an average) then you can see that we still have a lot of the big hitters to visit B6.

Just a quick update on the Lawro league, unfortunately the camp one didn't make any predictions for the midweek games so these all get put as 0-0's. As a result the table looks like this:

Can't wait to see the tables after todays result BOF when will they be ready ?

I'd expect it to show we're still 5 points better off than at this stage last season not level on points. :winkold:

True, but on Boxing day of last season, we'd only played 18 games.

After Charlton it will be 21 games. After 21 games last season, we were on 25 points.

So a loss/draw/win will see us on 25/26/28 points after 21 games.

What this proves is....erm, well, nothing. It only further demonstrates that the squad is too small and it's lacking in quality.

(Although I knew that last season, so I'm not sure what point Malcolm is hoping BOF's stats will prove.)

as an aside on this - against the same opposition as played to date (not including relegated/promoted teams) we are 10 points better off than last season.

I know you can read anything in to stats but I think it shows that we have moved forward this season under MoN, and I don't think well only pick up 19 points in the period after New Year this season, like we did last.

Our terrible run has been added to the comparison. Not good reading although last season Villa only got 20pts from their last 18 games so after some spending in January we will hopefully easily beat it. Definitely having a tough time of it lately though and are currently bottom of the form guide (last 6 fixtures).

Well considering we started the new year of 2006 with an away win, a home los, which was the last straw for O'Lleary in many eyes, even though we then had an away draw at Spurs, home draw against Chelsea and a 4-0 trouncing of Boro at Boro.

Considering we then went on to just avoid relegation with the worst season in history I was wondering how much needed to change results wise to get us back up the points table.

Charlton and Chelsea results added. We're now barely back ahead of last season's total. Week 23 last season was a creditable 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane. I'd settle for that in Old Trafford. A dress rehearsal happens in the FA cup before that though. Week 22 last season was Arsenal's 7-0 win against Middlesbrough. Happy times.

Arsenal 24 16 6 2 29 54

Liverpool 24 13 10 1 24 49

Bolton 24 10 11 3 11 41

West Ham 24 9 12 3 10 39

Portsmouth 24 9 9 6 6 36

Tottenham 24 8 11 5 6 35

Everton 24 9 8 7 3 35

Blackburn 23 7 8 8 -4 29

Wigan 24 6 9 9 -3 27

Aston Villa 24 6 7 11 -9 25

Boro 24 5 5 14 -15 20

Sheff Utd 24 4 8 12 -17 20

Charlton 24 3 10 11 -12 19

Newcastle 24 3 10 11 -14 19

Fulham 24 3 9 12 -17 18

Reading 24 2 10 12 -18 16

Man City 24 3 6 15 -19 15

Watford 23 3 6 14 -22 15

The game that was called off between Watford and Wigan, Lawro did make a prediction on hence why they have played more games in the Lawro League than in the PL.

Thanks for edit in advance Bri :D
