Ireland was MOTM for me but can I just give Petrov & Clark a shout. I thought they protected the back four really well.

Warnock, Dunne, Collins & Cuellar were fab. Gabby made some really clever runs today.

(IMHO we look a much better team without Hutton playing)

Great to see N'Zogbia linking up so well with Ireland. Bent looked up for it and scored.....

Not to mention Gary Gardner making his PL debut.

Fantastic way to end to 2011.

Enjoy!

Also, when Ireland passed to Bent for the 3rd, was that not offside ??

No. Bent was behind Ireland when he played the ball to him.

The law covering offside makes no reference to whether a player is "behind" when the ball is played.

I didn't think it was offside at the time, so I guess I'd need to see it again.

Where did the last 5 minutes come from??

I am not getting over excited here, Chelsea were there for the taking throughout and we didnt seem to want to go and beat them!

Then, McLeish was trying to take off Ireland after the second goal, thankfully, the crab was injured after finally running past the half way line and the substitution was changed meaning Ireland was on the pitch for number three.

Still not sure why Collins was playing at centre back instead of Cueller, but again, it shows that if we play to our strengths and attack, we can win games.

How does the saying go? When in Rome talk complete rubbish

Mate please take your negativity somewhere else, just for today please.

Petrov has been our best player this season and he took his goal magnificently.

Whole team and the management deserve great credit today, Up the Villa!!

what a load of shit

i missed the game **** man flu and finishing work at 4am didnt help along with having to go to my grandmothers to say hello

got back 7 minutes before the game ended, got a stream going and it came on just after a goal went in ( bents) i knew it was 1-1 and presumed chelsea had scored, i then saw once the shitty advert had gone we were 3-1 up.

nice to see cuellar playing, no suprise we look 100% better in defence with him there, he brings calm to the back 4

i saw ireland intercept fat franks pass for bents goal and also saw that he scored our 1st goal

hopefully it will be the start of ireland at villa because he has been utter shit for the majority of his time here and at newcastle.

well done today i didnt see it so cant comment apart from seeing the last 6 minutes which was probably not the most exciting par of the match

just to piss on the fire sllightly, AM won against chelsea last season with the scum so there is no getting carried away from me. a string of 6 or 7 results in 10 games and better football and i may start to change my views.

i will take the game in the isolation the result comes in

Well, that was unexpected.

Ireland will get the headlines and a lot of MOM votes for that comeback performance but I went with Petrov. He was great today.

Petrov has been our best player all season...

MOTM for me....

remarkable result really....Chelsea were shit but we made them shit as well i thought....

whats frustrating is we could be closer to newcastle if mcleish had recognised 2 months ago that we need to wingers on the pitch and heskey nowhere near the midfield....

if he plays in midfield again i would really have no respect for mcleish at all....

2 of zog, ireland, alby and bannan must start every game with gabby and bent up top...

great to see Bent score alongside ireland...much needed confidence boost for both..

well done villa and well done mcleish

Well, I always predicted a win - just had the feeling.

What I didn't have a feeling for was that we were going to play like Brazil circa 1970 !!!!

We were outstanding today, everyone of them (I thought N'Zog was subdued, but he tracked back when needed and did a lot of dirtyt work).

I thought we'd scrape a win, what we actually did was easily win and fully deserve it.

And gues what - I COUNTED 2 HOOFS IN THE ENTIRE GAME !!!!!!

We played, we passed, we were patient, we looked up, we played one touch - oh yesssssssssssssssssss

And, I may think the guy is a prize prick, but if he plays like that every game Ireland can be as big a prick as he wants - the guy was just superb ! (mind you , if Bent had missed , I;d have been going ape shit at both of em :) ).

All I can say is that was great, and I would have said the same if it had finished 1-1 to be honest, because thats how us fans want to see us play.

Well done lads, that was a good end to 2011 ! - now , in the words of Love Actually - "lets go and get pissed and watch some porn !!!"

Happy new year :D

Clark was very classy on the ball, didn't give much away, reminds me of Barry, but I think he could be better

Lets hope this really kick starts the reign of Eck.

We are looking like a good breakaway team again now that Zog has settled and Marc is back in the team

Brilliant performance, ok sometimes we were too negative but let's not forget this is Chelsea so very forgiveable.

However, it's also worth noting that this is pretty much the team the FANS have been screaming for since August; no Hutton and no Heskey. Heskey's injury and Hutton's red card (and Cuellar making it impossible to be dropped) forced McLeish's hand so not overly convinced on him still.

Ireland however, easily best game in a Villa shirt - really hope he kicks on but he needs to be able to put these performances in against the Swansea's of this world, not just the big boys.

Ok, it's taken 365 days to see a truly great Villa performance, let's hope 2012 doesn't take so long!

My prediction of a win was correct !

8)

However, I didn't expect it to be this comprehensive....kind of bucks the trend, eh?

Not sure what this signals for the club after a piss poor first half of the season. Hopefully is doesn't give Lerner an excuse to stand pat in the transfer window. Chelsea are old and on the decline, so the result was not a total shock to me. Villas-Boas is going to be a nervous boy going into the second half of the season.

Depending on what the owner wants to achieve, we need to buy a couple of players now. But I'm guessing this result will have the opposite effect. We are a massive 3 points closer to safety, and this year, that'll suit him just fine.

Great win, proud of the team.

Sorry mate, it was a good win but if you want to get carried away with that, good luck to you. The opportunity was there throughout, we didnt go for it for some reason until it fell in our lap. When your euphoria (and the babycham) wears off, you might see that.

Sorry I am not one of the "hang myself" when we lose, "get a tattoo" when we win extreme brigade.

Good result, still a hell of a lot of work to do.

Think its just confidence though mate, our performances in the last 3 games have been pointing to this - we just needed to believe we could do it and not just hope for a point. Ireland in his usual enigmatic way was the catalist we needed.
