Royalist or Republican?

Shame you got the date wrong awol, a decade out of date, so can I repeat my question? but this time add the word contemporary evidence?

Oh and for your info I live in Formby which you would imagine would be fairly Royalist given its supposed average income etc, its like living in the South of the country, its just in the North, we did after all have half the street parties in the whole of Merseyside for the Royal Wedding (or was it some sort of Jubilee, I forget), we had three. Which just reminds me if the Royals are so popular how come there were a severe lack of street closures - country wide?

Well, if we're going to use Mori polls.

In a Mori poll from 2004, the last time the 'would not vote' option was given only 2% said they wouldn't vote, on the question of 'Do you favour Britain electing its Head of State or do you favour Britain retaining the monarchy?' 2002 - 3% 2001 - 3% 1999 - 2%

Is that not an argument for greater democracy on the issue of head of state?

Of course people love the monarchy. They also love East Enders and Big Brother and the X-Factor. The media tells them to.

If that theory was correct you'd expect people to welcome the idea of voting for a Head of State, wouldn't you?

Oh yes, that's true. I see masses of pressure for that coming from Heat and Nuts and E4 and The Peoples' Friend and ITV1 and the Daily Mail and Saatchi & Saatchi and....

Since when did the mass media encourage people to think about politics? B-o-o-o-r-r-i-n-g....

We love the Royal Family, they're just like us, aren't they?

Some morons it seems are quite happy to give their money to the vile old git and his family. The mind boggles how utterly stupid people can be.

I'd rather third the money than me funding the proles of society

Here's one.

You can label me a moron just as easily as I can label you wrong

If they could do it via their 'phone or text having watched them doing a televised waving competition or walkaround the answer may be slightly different to the headline of the poll.

Some interesting numbers underneath that headline, though, such as the responses to:

Do you think that Prince Charles should or should not give up his right to be the next monarch in favour of his eldest son, Prince William?

and

How interested, if at all, are you in the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton?

Here's another.

I think the queen is shit at her job, but it doesn't matter what any of us think really, does it.

You're right, it doesn't matter what you think.

Or what you think, and you're happy with that. Plonker :lol:

Why wouldn't I be happy? The monarchy are still here, I'm getting my way. :lol:

So there we have it, a thread demonstrating definitively that monarchist really are hard of thinking.

:lol:

No. What this thread demonstrates is that you cannot stand someone (or as we have established, around 75% of people) holding a different view to you without resorting to insults. It shows why fervent Republicans are much like hardcore Socialists; they are incapable of accepting that most people reject their dearly held beliefs.

This is rationalised internally by stating that they must be either:

a) stupid;

B) victims of an establishment conspiracy to stop them forming their own balanced view on a subject;

B) in need of enlightenment through the wisdom cast upon them by vastly superior intellectual minds.

I think the correct description of that is 'denial'.

That 75% is from the MORI poll. Which also predicts a 97-98% turnout when asked. Yes, I hold my hands up, I think anybody who willingly wants to give their money to a rich family and want to keep that compulsory for all are a tad stupid. However, I'm not really bothered about people holding different views, I'm bothered about views not being heard. I want a democratically elected head of state.

Just out of interest, if it was your call, who would you like to see as the elected head of state?

Tbh that is a silly and pointless question as it would depend on who was standing for election at the time surely and as such an election doesn't exist it would be impossible to say

Just because a situation you don't mind is in currently place doesn't make not having the option to change it a good thing.

And can you quote a post of mine which says this? I merely said I was happy with the current situation, so the fact my opinion doesn't matter makes little difference to me.
