sne
Excellent stuff! Quote Bradley Stoke Town FC has a new player called Bradley Stokes "The club secretary thought I was taking the p**s" Bradley Stoke Town FC has a new player this season with the perfect name - Bradley Stokes. Yes that's right, Bradley Stokes. The 23-year-old. graduated from UWE after studying business and marketing, isn’t from the area and it is not a co-incidence he joined Bradley Stoke - he signed up purely because of the name. On leaving university the centre-half, who works for HL Training Services, decided to find a football club for a hobby. He said: “I knew there was an area called Bradley Stoke, so I googled it to see if they had a football team because I thought that would be cool.” There was - Bradley Stoke Town FC, who play in the Bristol and District League senior division. Bradley called up the team and arranged to watch a reserve game before signing on. When he told the club secretary his name though, they thought it was a joke. Bradley said: “He thought I was taking the p**s, and asked to see my ID before filling in the signing on forms.” https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bradley-stoke-town-fc-new-2185195

One of the replies to the initial tweet suggests there are going to be more of these, but frankly they probably don't need to bother.
sharkyvilla
My local team Horsham's new ground is coming along nicely. Been 12 years without a ground thanks to rampant NIMBYism, it's only small but has two 3G pitches with one for use with the community, but most importantly their future is secure.
sne
Quote NON-LEAGUE: HEADINGLEY AFC BECOME FIRST FOOTBALL CLUB IN ENGLAND TO ADOPT ANTI-GAMBLING SHIRT SPONSOR An amateur football team from the 11th tier are set to become the first English club to adopt an anti-gambling shirt sponsor. Headingley AFC of the West Yorkshire Premier League will have the logo of the Gambling With Lives charity adorning their shirts for the foreseeable future. This comes at a point in the ‘progression’ of the professional game in which nearly two-thirds of the clubs in the top two divisions carry the name of a betting company or online casino on their shirts, and in which slews of gambling commercials pollute almost every facet of the live game, be it televised or inside the stadium. Headingley originally opened up their shirt sponsorship as part of a fund-raising raffle back in November. The shirt was attended by members of the Gambling With Lives charity, which was set up by friends and relatives of young men who had taken their own lives after getting into debt via gambling addictions. As per BBC Sport, the charity didn’t win the auction, but the man who did – a former Headingley player who now runs a local painting and decorating service – decided to gift them the prize in memory of a former teammate who sadly took his own life in 2013, aged just 34, having run up gambling debts of £50,000. The new shirt is set to be worn for the first time this coming weekend with the deal set to run for the next two years, during which they hope to raise awareness about the ramifications of habitual gambling and the mental health issues associated with it… Gambling With Lives founders Charles and Liz Ritchie said: This is a special deal. Every game will flag up the dangers of gambling and generate discussion among people who are targeted by gambling marketing. One day Headingley will be seen as pioneers of changing the place of gambling in football. Amen. The sea change can’t come soon enough. http://www.whoateallthepies.tv/kits/280983/non-league-headingley-afc-become-first-club-in-britain-to-adopt-anti-gambling-shirt-sponsor-photo.html
newhavenhibby Posted January 12, 2019 Visiting Supporter Share Posted January 12, 2019 (edited) Still follow Hereford FC having watched them regularly as Hereford United through the 80s and 90s. Great attitude by their fans to get the club up and running again as Hereford FC in 2015 following the winding up of United in 2014 and fortunately Edgar Street had not been redeveloped so gave them somewhere to play. Struggling this season in National League North after a run of promotions and a Wembley visit in the Vase in 2016.. Shows how slight the margins were in football as I was at Edgar Street for the final game of the season in 1997. We had been mid table going into the New Year that season and Brighton were well adrift at the foot of the table. Then we started to lose and they win and by the last game we needed a win to stay up and they needed to draw. We were winning 1 . 0 until the last few minutes when Brighton equalised to stay in the League and relegate us. Hereford United eventually folded as a Club and Brighton are now a Premier League club and all the gravy train money that brings. ......"forever United".... I went to watch the 'new' Hereford FC in their first ever home game against FC United of Manchester in 2015. Was a good day - cider festival at the Hereford Rowing Club then a walk to Edgar Street. Good crowd for a friendly - over 4k i think. Glad to see them thriving. Think they have reached same level as FCUM now.
Popular Post chrisp65
Port Talbot programme from yesterday, two players (2 & 4) with the same name, but let's not go down the traditional letter for middle name route to distinguish them. Bottom of the page, ref's assistants addresses. 5
Xela
Jandir Zola sounds extravagant for Port Talbot. Question is, can he do it in on a cold Tuesday night in Cefn Druids?!
chrisp65
So, our programme cover for tomorrow is a riff on the Motley Crue album cover theatre of pain comedy and tragedy. Already done, dusted, printed and ready to go before the events with this missing Cardiff player. So we've decided as there are some people out there looking to be offended we should point out to the club that a comedy and tragedy cover could remotely be seen as bad timing. Remember, we'd had people say the Velvet Underground banana cover could have been seen as racist!!! Luckily, my bro has done a double cover for the cup game. Flip it over and it's an old fashioned drawing of an angel type figure holding a trophy, some sun rays, some scrolly oldee worldee lettering. So sell them facing up the other way if it's a problem. Question comes in, great idea guys, keep it obviously inoffensive, just for info where did you get this second graphic? My response: Hitler's Olympics. It wasn't, obvs, I just thought that was funny.

Not sure the money being offered is working out for him though. Edited January 27, 2019 by chrisp65
