Some say it isn't, but they are wrong.

This is absolutely nothing like Final Fantasy was when it was good as far as I can tell.

The problem is with "old" final fantasy is the west moaned like **** about the turned based combat system, the thing being it worked, 7 in particular when you're sat there thinking right do I cast haste first or wall or try and get a hit in etc it was a thought process as to how to set yourself up and what to do it was a massive part of the enjoyment for me, it now seems like the combat system in the new one is being criticised too for being simple, I'm imagining something close to dynasty warriors style hammer the attack button to slash at the enemy, they can't win

i personally wouldn't say 9 is the best, 8 is probably my favourite (first half of the game with the 2 schools, the card mini game) followed by 7 and then 9 but they're all perfect 10/10 games

8 was great, but I just hated the draw system. I hardly ever used magic, simply because my stats would decrease every time I did. The card game was boss though, and I didn't mind the story. Garden battle was epic.

9 is still my favourite pre voice acting. X is my overall favourite.

how the hell can they release an RPG, and then realise it was shit and they need more story content? Ridiculous. SE are a shadow of their former selves.

Well, the game does work perfectly well at the moment, it's not like it's broken. The story is the weakest element, which seems to be the major element of change in these future updates, but it isn't the story that keeps me playing. So anything on top of what's already there is a bonus really. The 'crown update' actually already put in extra story stuff, so the original version was even more threadbare story wise than now.

There is a wait mode that let's you do the whole taking your time to strategise thing.

As for the combat being like Dynasty Warriors, if you were to treat the game like that you would get your ass whupped. It has more in common with say Dark Souls than DW - minus the difficulty and trial and error element ofc.

Just hit Level 99.

I have been very critical of this game just like I am very critical of this series. For me Final Fantasy 7 is the greatest game in the series, but that entire era was sublime. I don't think anyone could be faulted for claiming allegiance to FF6, 7, 8 or 9 as their favourite in the series as they are all brilliant games. Though that does bring a level of expectation and this series hasn't met that for me.

That said despite my criticisms surrounding this game I have still hit max level and done everything that can be done. I still find myself logging in daily just to farm AP so I have something to do again in this world. It's odd as there are vastly better games out there, I could be playing The Last Guardian, or Watch_Dogs 2, or Dishonored 2, or anything else right now yet I'm Warp-Striking little ratty dog things for AP. This game has something about it that is hard to pinpoint. It's not a good game, but I am invested in this world for some reason.

I think my enjoyment of the world is making it a good game for me. I'm no where near as far as you are, but the more I play the more I'm enjoying it. This may change once I've seen everything and combat is a irrelevant cos I'm so OP, but right now I would say it is a good game.

I love a good list. Here is a rather nice one ranking the mainline FF games, no sequels, including XV. Spoilered below if tl;dr but I will say that @Chindie likes this

Spoiler

IX
VI
V
XII
VII
XV
X
XIV
VIII
IV
XIII
I
III
II
XI

Nice to see V repped so highly, it would definiately be my most under appreciated FF, unless you count Tactics.

Here's my ranking, although like the above it does take in to account time played, so one's I didn't finish or play much (XII and XI, respectively) aren't represented as highly as they otherwise might be. Plus I haven't finished XV yet, so that might move up or down.

VII
IX
VI
X
XIV
XV
V
XII
VIII
IV
XIII
I
XI
III
II

Actually quite easy for me to place them. XIV is possibly the only anomaly, it's placed so high thanks to the incredible turnaround it had. 1 was very nearly above XIII, but the battle system and soundtrack of the latter pull it through.

I'm nearing the end of the main story, and whilst it is by no means a perfect game, the comradery between the group and the little nods to past games are fantastic.   The fact that the battle system is much improved on XIII is a bonus.

Some gripes however (Spoilers ahead)

Spoiler

1) The fact you can clearly see where they left bits out of the main story for the DLC's, Episodes Ignis, Gladilous and Prompto, is a little annoying.

2) Chapter 13 - far too long, inability to run, poor stealth mechanics, only slightly redeemed itself with the boss fight, but again the story behind that happens off screen.

One thing that pisses me off about this game is the stupidly long time between save points in some sections. I'm in a series of underground caves, lots of enemies, takes ages to get to the boss and no way of saving for when you die. And that blonde haired boy band looking prick has so little HP you constantly have to revive him. Was really enjoying this but at the moment I'm going to leave it alone before I get to a point where it gets traded.

Every dungeon in the game disables saving to make them more challenging.

What I will say is dungeons only get longer and longer as you get further into the game. If they are pissing you off now this game may yet get even more frustrating.

Annoying. Some of us don't have hours to spend playing a game without a break so guess the dungeons will be missed by me when I get round to grabbing this.

This is part of the main story so I have to do it.

Those for the most part are semi-reasonable. It's still not great to be locked into 20-60 minute dungeons I agree, but the main story ones largely don't last that much longer than that.

Some of the end-game ones though are brutally long.

There are only a finite number of them if that's what you mean. All the way up to level 99.

A porn parody has been produced by Brazzers called 'Full Service Station'. It features a young lady dressed like Cindy from Hammerhead. Apparently.

First DLC out tomorrow, it's called the 'Holiday Pack' and is free for everyone, although those with the season pass get the 'Holiday Pass+'. There's nothing interesting, few items of clothing and accessories with special attributes. It does include a Carnival ticket too, which is an event due to take place in the New Year.

Also, on Jan 31st there's going to be an event in Tokyo held by SE, called the 'Opening Ceremony'

final-fantasy-30th-anniversary-opening-c

It's to celebrate 30 years of Final Fantasy, but perhaps more interestingly, it's exactly 20 years since FFVII was released in Japan.

Hopefully we'll get a 2017 release date for FFVIIR Part 1. More than likely some stuff about FFXIII Trilogy on PS4, possibly the rumoured collection of all the mainline games for current gen too. Chance of an announcement for VIII and IX coming to PS4.

It'll be streaming worldwide.
