kingphil
You may have a problem getting out of the City Centre on Sunday (that is of course if you are staying in it), as it's the half marathon on Sunday 23rd - therefore all roads immediately in the centre will be shut down, so no taxi's etc available. As for things to do - Friday/Saturday night you can always find bars in Birmingham, just depends on what you are after - nice ales/beers or full of slappers and thugs ? AshVilla
Check out Reflex on broad street Full of old men frothing at the mouth at the sight of some stone age slappers dancing on the revolving disco floor looking like a boil in the bag curry in a microwave set to defrost. BOF Posted September 21, 2012 Moderator Share Posted September 21, 2012 Hello Ironically (as with the OP) I will be over for the Baggies game next weekend and am wondering which clubs the cool cats will be at. I have definitely heard that Arcadia(n?) is a great spot. But I know nothing about Brum nightlife. Plus, what was cool 6 months ago might be closed down by now. So, advice please. Normal clubs with a bit of life to them.

Normal clubs with a bit of life to them. What sort of music do you like Bri ? Motown ragga ? Techno flange ? Indie Bhangra ?..There are some pretty good clubs behind the Arcadian on Hurst Street. The Village is supposed to be pretty lively apparently . May see you at the game !!!
BOF Posted September 21, 2012 Moderator Share Posted September 21, 2012 Just normal nightclubs. Nothing that specialises in some weird fringe genres. Just a good night out.
Brumerican
Just normal nightclubs. Nothing that specialises in some weird fringe genres. Just a good night out. I made those genres up (I think) . Brum centre is massive and you can just stumble from club to bar to club again until you find something you like. Stevo985 Posted September 21, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted September 21, 2012 BOF, Arcadian is decent. Not clubs though, just bars. But dancy bars, if that makes sense. So they may as well be clubs. BUt don't be expecting big Gatecrasher style clubs. Quite a young crowd and a fair spattering of chavs, unfortunately. I'd suggest Indi Bar. Decent music (to my tastes), reasonably priced drinks, and hot women (srs). But it's a good bet because there's a few bars very close together so you can stumble in and out of them at will (although some will charge you to go in, but you should get a stamp for re-entry) and you're close enough to head into Brum proper if you get bored. It's always busy too. If you're after something more up market, I'd suggest the Jewellery quarter. There's only 1 club, The Jam House, which is an older crowd and not really clubby music (it's likely to have a live band, but they'll play well known music) and it's expensive. But plenty of nice pubs and bars around there. It's a top night out, but different to your standard club/bar night out so not to everyone's tastes. And if you really want to scrape the barrell, go to Broad Street. Common as ****, slags ahoy, cheap(er)drinks, and terrible music. I wouldn't go these days, but some people are into that. And Gatecrasher is on Broad Street. Huge club, and can be an amazing night out. Loads of different rooms too so bound to be something to your tastes. If you go for the Broad Street option I'd head to Brindley Place beforehand. Some nice bars there. Right next to broad Street so you can go and get messy, but it's by the canal so it's a nicer place to start the night. I've given you a scale there Downmarket: Broad Street Middle of the road: Arcadian Upmarket: Jewellery Quarter Other choices: Mailbox (Upmarket), Snobs (Downmarket), Hurst Street (Gay, but can be a laugh), Newhall Street and surrounding areas (pretty upmarket, it's where all the corporate places are so likely full of dickheads), Mechu (upmarket, fittest women in Birmingham in there though)
