I never expected it but Ireland were better than Italy and deserved their win but it was definitely the beautiful game's ugly sister.

Having watched this battle, which was red in tooth and claw, and stretched the rules beyond what was reasonable, I could quite understand why a non-football fan might wonder why it produced such sentimentality from its victors.

100% this, it's a joke. Think the players play with fear, tonight they'd nothing to lose and it showed, was the same against France that night.

was the same in last 20 minutes in Germany when we got an equaliser

Great decision to make Coleman captain he was just a beast last night .....

was critical of him after last 2 games but shone last night. his tackle in 1st 20 seconds set the tone, was Keane on Overmars

speaking of Keane the players were bitey all night and took no prisoners, im sure he had a few things in their ear to get them going

Is it a case of lack of belief in themselves, do you think? Because on paper, Ireland have a very solid side. Lots of Premier League regulars in there.

To be fair if Italy wanted to go balls out to win that game they could have better team selection and mentality... their keeper was shite ..buffon would have came out to close off that cross to Brady , but we still had to beat a quality team and we did

we have had managers drill fear into them and make them more cautious and safety first. Under Big Jack and to a lesser extent McCarthy Ireland have always been good at attacking teams even if football not great. In last 10-12 years or so mainly starting with Kerr we have played safety first football and this has cost us in the past

like the 2002-12 generation Ireland had of Keane, Given, Duff, O'Shea and Dunne really underachieved in terms of qualification for tournaments mainly because of this defensive mindset cost us games

Made it out of the toughest qualifying group, then came through the toughest group stage, now we have the hosts who we have previous with, It's never easy for the BIG. French have had 4 extra rest days and probably 80% of the crowd, talk about a fix.

Their run to the final is a perk of being the hosts. It is "fixed" in the sense its predetermined, but it will be for anyone that hosts the new 24 team format.
