NottingVilla
Our attendance today. Is this a record low for a season opener? I can't remember a prem game that low never-mind the first match of the season. Should be 40k at least. Sadly it looks like Mcleish's appointment has cost us about 8,000 fans and lots of lost revenue. Will the attendances pick up over the season? parisvilla
Didn't go down today myself and can't really put a finger on why. Gutted to have missed Gabby's 50th.
largelugs
All to do with McLeish, nothing to do with the economic climate, Randy's new financial policy, holidays...

Can't remember a Prem game that low really? under Big Ron in 1992/93 the season we finished 2nd we got 19k odd against Crystal Palace and that wasn't considered exceptionally low. Todays crowd was disappointing but not anywhere near as bad as you are making out. McLeish hasn't lost us 8k fans. Lack of ambiton by the board and people losing their jobs/feeling a financial pinch certainly won't help attendances though.
NottingVilla
Current economic climate is the same as last season. It's a shocking attendance which is obviously down to the controversial appointment. Citing things like school holidays etc is just burying your head in the sand. R.Bear
Recession + star players leaving + low expectations = Low attendances Percentage of this being McLeish's fault = 0%

Brumerican
1. The game was yesterday. 2. Attendances will improve A lot of fans are still upset for various reasons and the economy is bad . It isn't the end of the world though, but I guess you still need to focus on the negatives after a good win eh ? It also highlights somewhat of a vicious circle that is affecting the club....Our turnover isn't good enough to improve the team and our team isn't attractive enough to improve the turnover. If we have 10,000 empty seats for a Villa Park opener then it's hardly surprising that Randy isn't going to keep chucking money at us .
Brumerican
Current economic climate is the same as last season. No it isn't. Try reading the news now and again .
NottingVilla
Unemployment rate is the same as this time last year in Birmingham. I hope this helps.
BrummieVillan
Disappointing number but I have complete faith that some people can find money from somewhere and come to support us. It may be very low for us but I think attendances will improve.

If people dont want to turn up because they refuse to give a manager a chance from day one then I'm glad they werent in VP today. Good riddance. Support the team and the manager or piss off. Pilchard
They were told people wouldn't go if mcleish was made manager. They decided that was a risk worth taking. A few more wins like that and perhaps people may start think about going back.
NottingVilla
Pilchard hopefully that is the case. For me there can be no denying though the poor attendance is overwhelmingly down to the appointment.
darrenm
Bog all to do with McLeish being the manager. Purely the economic climate, holidays and it not being an amazingly attractive game.
BrummieVillan
Whatever the reason (and there are loads of legitimate ones, I understand them) it was still a disappointing attendance, but like I said I have faith it'll improve.
largelugs
4285 down on last season, a tiny away following, bit different from the 8k you want us to believe, or would that not be sensational enough to prove your point.
NottingVilla
Is there a public holiday in Birmingham the rest of the country don't know about?
Brumerican
It wouldn't be so bad if the thread was created by someone who was actually at the game !
NottingVilla
I live too far away to go to the game. Maybe it's easier to get to from "Brumerica" *cringe*
