dark day for football

Former England and Aston Villa striker Darius Vassell has announced his retirement at the age of 35.

The Sutton Coldfield-born player, who had been without a club since 2012, earned 22 England caps, scoring six goals, during the reign of manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

He had spells with Manchester City, Turkish side Ankaragucu and Leicester after leaving Villa in 2005.

In a statement released by his management company, Oporto Sports, Vassell said: "I have enjoyed my career in football playing at the highest level, doing something I genuinely loved, and I felt that now was the right time to announce my retirement and look to the next phase of my life."

Vassell played at the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004. England reached the quarter-finals of the latter tournament before losing in a penalty shoot-out to hosts Portugal, with Vassell seeing his spot-kick saved by future Leicester team-mate Ricardo.

Needs to sack his agent, the tit.
Always was rumours about when he was here that he was a monumental dickhead.

Every move he is made has been appalling.

From leaving Watford, turning down Ajax, leaving Brentford after a breakthrough season for more money at Doncaster, to joining the Scottish second tier.

Actually it's a very good move for him. He worked with Warburton at Brentford and is highly regarded by him. It makes sense as a player to go with a manager  you know likes you. Furthermore, Rangers are pretty much guaranteed (unless they self implode) to go up this year. The size of the club, they could easily be challenging Celtic at the top of the premier league next season.

He moved on 6 months before Warburton became manager. Warburton was sporting director while Forrester was there though.

Craig Gardner is one of the worst footballers to have a long premier league career, being able to score 4 goals a season from long range and do knob all else, besides being a complete arsehole. I hate the fact we started him off on he's career.

So, Villa "rejects" Collins, Gardner, Albrighton and Routledge all had a pretty good time of things in the league this week...

James Coillins is an astounding example of a player who left Villa looking like a completely busted flush - despised by the manager, disciplined by the club, regarded by most fans as a skill-less, unfit, liability to the squad.

And now here he is playing a major role in West Ham's  successful season, picked regularly by a demanding manager and, from the glimpses I see on MOTD, doing pretty damn well.

How does this keep happening? Somehow we seem to have become incapable of getting the best out of players - Albrighton is another major example of a player who left Villa Park with a big question mark hanging over his career and now is tearing up trees for another more successful side.

Gary Charles talking about alcoholism

"Charles has been sober for nine years. The 45-year-old is director of football at Nottingham University and is working with Priority Health - a specialist organisation to help young footballers."

I saw that :D News this morning "Samir Carruthers of Milton Keynes Dons ...." ('ex-Villa' I remarks to myself) "and Northampton's James Collins"  ('also ex-Villa' I remarks to myself).  Urinating in a glass and chucking it over the side.  Noice.

Had themselves a proper boozy old boys club didn't they :)
