I’ve not bought The Sun, or Mail for the best part of a year now. It’s surprising how your views change when you’re not being brainwashed. I was obsessed with immigration and terrorism for a long time. It’s rarely on my radar anymore, and I put that simply down to not reading the papers mentioned.

Well done, utter bile rags!

Got fed up of reading the same shit. Then after a bit I noticed I weren’t being consumed with all the shit that was being printed in these papers. Obviously terrorism is a problem, but not on the scale I thought it was, and anyway our security forces do a great job in trying to keep us safe, so why worry. I voted out of the EU, and I think I made a mistake in doing that.

You did, don't worry, there's more of you every day starting to admit it. And not reading the bile rags is an excellent decision

What's done is done. I'm sure being out of the EU is not the end of the world, but it was a campaign full of lies and playing on the minds of fear and the uneducated. I'm sure the educated voters who voted out had their own reasons, but for many like myself, I think it was a decision we shouldn't have made.

Not enough likes in the world for this Ruge. And not just for the Murdoch Scum bit but you're spot on imo and most people don't recognise it OR want to hear it.

I've got enough problems without adding to them, or reading papers that try and add to my problems. The world is a different place now compared to other generations that have passed. It's far from perfect, but I try and let other people do the hating now.  We are not here long enough to worry about something that will probably not happen.

I've always found the left to be more radical, so it looks like I was fighting a losing battle ?

A famous poet once said "I straddle the fench, and my balls hurt"

Straddle the fench? Is that something you and Mrs Ruge get up to? :D

It's that simple. I had my views, and I still hold some views, but putting down those two papers has altered my way of thinking dramatically. Deep down, it's not in my nature to have so much hate towards people. I've accepted that immigration is part of the world today, and it's not all bad.

Get this Ruge;

- On this planet, at this time, there has never been a safer place to be alive.

- You now have access to information, from more or less any source, containing most of the things ever written - for free, at any time or place.

- Living in the UK, earning an average salary, gives you more wealth than 90% of the other people living on the planet you do.

- If you, or your kids, or any of your family get hurt, become sick, you can more or less guarantee to see a specialist within 6 hours to try and fix the problem.  A complete dream for billions of people.  Imagine being sick, injured etc and being told "can't afford it? tough shit and good luck".

- You're likely to live a longer, healthier life than anyone from the generations before you and your kids should live to be even older and more healthier than you.

- Travel is cheaper now then it has ever been - you can go to more or less any place without restrictions (ok, maybe a quick VISA application).

I'm as guilty as anyone for this, but the world is what we make of it.  You can look up, or down.  It's harder to look up, but when you do, it's worth it and gives you the ultimate thing "contentedness".

By cultural design and evolution, we always want more.  That's the culture and society we live in.  We're completely conditioned to be competitive.  But if you try and stretch away from that briefly you soon realise how fortunate you are.

Oh yes, I'm aware how lucky we are compared to most. My point was mainly due to the world being far more multicultural now than it was in the 40s 50s etc.

I mean, of course it is, but people understate how much more multicultural the world was back then. We had an empire spanning 1/3 of the world's population. People couldn't move around as fast, or as freely, but they moved around.

That Europe was this homogenous white paradise that needs to be saved is one of the most infuriating tropes that white nationalists have; not because it's disgusting (although there is that) but simply because it's wrong.

You're right, as history tells us there were a lot of different cultures that lived together going back many years. I suppose I was getting at the freedom of movement, and how easy it is now to move about. Look how many international flights there are everyday.

True.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your opinion) this is the world now. It's only going to get more accessible for all.

US cable giant Comcast has submitted the highest bid in the auction for broadcaster Sky, valuing the company at more than £30bn.

Comcast beat Rupert Murdoch's Fox in a rare blind auction process set by the UK's Takeover Panel.

The firm's chairman and chief executive said it was "a great day for Comcast".

Sky has recommended its shareholders accept the bid, saying it was an "excellent outcome" and "represents materially superior value".

The UK company's 23m subscribers and Premier League football rights make it one of Europe's most profitable TV companies.

Comcast's bid equated to £17.28 per share, beating Fox's of £15.67 per share.

BBC

The shares have doubled in value in 12 months.

Likely the holders will bite.
