BOF Posted June 27, 2011 Author Moderator Posted June 27, 2011 STRUCTURE You play the teams in your own league home & away (7 opponents, 14 games). You play the teams in the other league once, split evenly 4 home & 4 away (8 teams, 8 games) 22 league games in total. The Northern & Southern winners will play a final game in the home of the Northern winner to determine the champion.
BOF Posted June 27, 2011 Author Moderator Posted June 27, 2011 You'll notice that only 2 of the promoted sides have chosen to play. QPR have opted out. As well as that, Man Citeh's "Team Awesome", or whatever the fook they call themselves, have decided the reserve league is not awesome enough for them and have stayed away. But Fulham have decided to enter this season, so it's still 16 teams but it's a nice even 8 v 8 geographical breakdown making it a simpler system and also rendering my spreadsheet totally useless in the process
OutByEaster? Posted July 13, 2011 Moderator Posted July 13, 2011 It'll be interesting to see how this league and the European competition will fit together - especially given that many of our reserves have now graduated to the first team squad. There might well be quite a lot of football for the youngsters this year.
BOF Posted July 13, 2011 Author Moderator Posted July 13, 2011 Agreed. And not only that. It will be football against much better opposition. In theory it should be fantastic for their development and should get them ready for the first team much quicker than normal. The fact it is also in a competitive, eh, competition, only makes it even more beneficial
OutByEaster? Posted July 13, 2011 Moderator Posted July 13, 2011 I think you're right for a few BOF, but I think one or two might get a baptism of fire this year. It'll be interesting to watch, particularly becasue there will be a big turnover of players from the team of the last few seasons.
BOF Posted July 13, 2011 Author Moderator Posted July 13, 2011 Yeah it will serve to more quickly weed out the ones that aren't up to it, which will also benefit the club, if not the individual. Oh and I've put up the fixtures now too. As you can see, apart from Swansea away, it is only the home fixtures where location & time have yet to be decided. Seems Villa's preparedness for the new season isn't limited to the kit and the senior squad.
BOF Posted July 13, 2011 Author Moderator Posted July 13, 2011 Things that piss you off.... Only just now realising that the spreadsheet you were planning on using for the new reserves season won't even nearly work on it
OutByEaster? Posted July 23, 2011 Moderator Posted July 23, 2011 BOF, will you be keeping the Euro-babbies info in here too?
OutByEaster? Posted July 26, 2011 Moderator Posted July 26, 2011 Anyone know how tonight's friendly went?
holteendhero Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Two one down at the moment Avfcoffical is tweeting from the match hope they do this all through the season
OutByEaster? Posted July 27, 2011 Moderator Posted July 27, 2011 Finished 2-1. I think it'll be a difficult season this year for a very young reserves side - it might well prove very beneficial for their future though.
rumourmill Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 and all the boys 1992 and younger will also have to play the nexgen series as well . Alot of games this year with the youth league as well
