It's not xenophobia to want the England manager to be English. It's not just that. There are other things too, like how you don't want Ancelotti to manage Spurs purely because he's not English. Also, you clearly place nationality above ability when it comes to picking the next England manager.

dudevillaisnice
It's not pathetic. Trust me, it is. It's called having pride in your country and not selling out. Football doesn't work like that, it's about getting results under the best management whether that is english or not isn't the matter. I'd rather give Big Sam a chance and see what he can do. I can confidently say Big Sam will never ever be as good as Mourinho. You never know, we might actually do well under an English manager if we gave them a chance... Maybe.. but it depends on their CV not their nationality.

You never know, we might actually do well under an English manager if we gave them a chance...It's also called being xenophobic and basing your choice of manager on nationality and not ability. When you are picking a manager, whether it be for club or country, the ability to do the job should always be the main priority. With you for some reason nationality is more important. You don't care if the best man gets the job or not, you just don't want any of them bloody foreigners coming in stealing English jobs do you? TRS-T
I think it's xenophobic to put nationality over ability. So international football is xenophobic? Messi has the ability to play for England but not the nationality. International football has to put nationality over ability otherwise it would just be club footballl... International football has to put nationality over ability otherwise it would just be club footballl...No. International football is about players from different nations competing against each other. I'm a firm believer that England should only have natural born English players playing for it. However, managers are different. The nationality of the manager makes little difference. Managers aren't the ones that play in the games.
DanishVillan
Well, it still send out a signal to the rest of the world. Our own isn´t good enough. Xenophobic or not, national sides tend to stay with same nationality manager if possible.

However the manager affects the game - he chooses the team, tactics, subs etc. If we're going to have all English players, then it makes sense to have an English manager as well. Having a foreign manager does not sit right with a lot of people - it is against the spirit of international football (i.e. our best vs their best.) Zatman
Having a foreign manager does not sit right with a lot of people - it is against the spirit of international football (i.e. our best vs their best.) in fairness English managers like Taylor and McLaren were embarrassing failures so foreign was best you could do. Think if wasnt for Sven or Capello your national team would have been a much bigger failure
