smetrov
The odds from SkyBet Moyes 8/11 Benitez 4/1 Allardyce 5/1 Hughes 7/1 MacDonald 8/1 Jol 8/1 McLaren 8/1 Eriksson 12/1 Surprised GMAC isn't in there - given that RL wanted to try KMAC. It could actually work against us getting Moyes. If houlliers condition means he isn't going to return. The speculation re moyes could reach boiling point - forcing him to commit to everton. thejoker
From the slight outsiders, I'd like to see Steve McClaren given the job. He won the dutch league with a small club and won the league cup at Boro (and got them to UEFA final - and look at them now!). England was a shambles, but which England manager in the past 10 years could you say has done a good job?

AVFC-Prideofbrum
if we have to get a new manager in the summer. I ask of all VT'ers to make sure it's known to the general that Sam Allardyce is not wanted at this club. (just to be sure )

The football might be a bit dull, but did anyone really care when we were shit (to watch) under MON and winning?? 40k fans every week tells me not... steve-67
Sorry Joker, I think Big Sam would be a backwards step. There are far better Managers out there to choose from. I also think Sam is fairly poor in the transfer market. The odd gem here and there granted, but he had money at the barcodes and spunked it. Crap Manager. smetrov
Think Allardyce's time was at the turn of the year - with all the disharmony , player disputes, and we couldn't buy a win. I thought then that big sam could come come in - kicka few arses - and get us the wins to stay up. It didn't happen, and we got the points we needed. Don't see it happening now. - can't beleive he is soshort odds. If we are going for another out of work manager - I think it will be benitez. The board may see a bit of continuity. However I would be pretty surprised and disappointed if Moyes isn't the number one target. ....Whether we can get himis another matter.

O'Neill's football was dull but not all the time and it wasn't long all the time, we were direct plenty of the time but mainly just got it wide as well as being pacey on the break. Big Sam's teams are just complete long ball and rely on set-pieces. I don't want to see that. Especially when we have so many managers to chose from. Sam is a new level of shit to watch to Mon. I know we spent a lot more but compare the football we played to Blackburn, we were like **** Barcelona.
OnlyOne
Any better realistic managers than these: Moyes - Hasn't won a trophy with Everton despite being with them for so many years Coyle - Stubborn and got exposed against Stoke when it really mattered McClaren - Been sacked from England and Wolfsburg. Clearly not good enough Jol - Was outsmarted by McClaren in Dutch league Big Sam - Poor version of MON Hughes - A draw specialist. Average MacDonald - Better suited for reserves Rafa - Would prefer not to have another EX Liverpool manager this time. Plus his gone downhill recently Lambert - Untested in Premier League. Shoody
Any better realistic managers than these: Moyes - Hasn't won a trophy with Everton despite being with them for so many years Had little to no investment and finished consistently above us (bar one season). A great manager in the running for Fergie's job. Coyle - Stubborn and got exposed against Stoke when it really mattered Agree, has a lot to learn but clearly a very talented manager McClaren - Been sacked from England and Wolfsburg. Clearly not good enough Agree he's not good enough would be a deathwish but he was fantastic at Twente and there's a reason he got the England job. Jol - Was outsmarted by McClaren in Dutch league Overrated but a good manager, would take him if we had to, getting outsmarted by McClaren over one season is no reason to diss somebody though Big Sam - Poor version of MON He's shitter than that Hughes - A draw specialist. Average Agree MacDonald - Better suited for reserves Agree Rafa - Would prefer not to have another EX Liverpool manager this time. Plus his gone downhill recently would definitely take him, not first choice but theres a reason he's managed Liverpool and Inter would be very worried by his transfer record Lambert - Untested in Premier League. Agreed.

Or, Moyes, has kept Everton in the Prem league without a great deal of money. Even got them in to the Champs league and europe a couple of times, in the toughest league in the world. Coyle, his players choked in a one off game but have generally done well otherwise. Has kept Bolton in the top 8, did a solid job with Burnley and is a good up and coming Manager. McClaren, performed well in a shit league. Good coach, crap Manager. Better number two IMO but did get Boro to a european final. Big Sam is uselsess. Hughes, tends to do well with smaller clubs but might benefit with a big club, time and backing. MacDonald and Lambert, totally agree. Rafa, would probably be a smack in the face for Gerard Houllier given that Rafa slated the previos Management of Plop.

Harsh, I thought O'Neill did a very good job here and we won nothing. It's very hard to win trophies without been given lots of money to spend, there are 5/6 other quality teams in England who usually dominate the trophies. Only Portsmouth in the last 15 years of the Fa Cup have broke up the dominance of Chelsea/Arsenal/United/Liverpool. Winning a trophy ain't easy these days. You've answered your own question there Willy. This is the time to bring in a good, solid non risky Manager to take us forward. David Moyes please. OnlyOne
To be honest, I would actually like Moyes to come here. But it's alarming that he hasn't won a trophy (McLeish managed to in a similar budget and shorter time) and seems to get knocked out of the cup by teams that are easily winnable. I mean it was Reading at home and another lower league team at home in this season wasn't it? There's also the other factor he seems to always have a bad start to the league meaning he'll probably never achieve a Champions League spot. Yeah, he managed to once (a long time ago...) but that was without Man City in the equation.
