Just an amazing breed.

Scares me somewhat less than Dom's pitbull.

There is a sad and poignant photo of a dog guarding it's master's dead body after the tornado last week. Strange how some animals can feel emotion in an almost human way.

Hate them. They stink and you have to pick up their shit after them.

But top of my hate list are the "staffy, pit-bull types" owned my chav clearings in the woods who want to look 'ard. They also seem to enjoy tearing small children and other dogs to bits. Sweeping generalisation I know, but Ive yet to meet one of these dogs and think "what a nice soft doggy, let me rub your tummy"

You must know a lot of scum-bag owners then, because more often than not the dog will behave in the way it's bred to

yep they do stink and it ay great clearing the shit up but its just like having a baby, totaly agree about all the idiots that have these so called intimidating dogs just to act hard and also don't look after them properly, seriously though staffys are one of the softest dogs about and most loving, I've never known a nasty one, granted if you get a nasty one they can do some damage but so can a labrador, I've just got a staffy pup and I've got a 10 month old son and another on the way and I've got no worries at all, their is some breed of dogs I wouldn't trust but staffys are one of the best family dogs you can have, media hype does not help this breed and its just ignorance, but my dog will never be left alone with my kid, no dog should be

Indeed, my wife was attacked by a staffy a week before our wedding. She was bitten 3 times by it, however the police told her they couldn't do anything as it happened on private property. The owners were a young couple with kids and 2 other well behaved dogs.

I see some old boy has been killed by a dog in Liverpool. Its a shame its always the same "type" of dog that is involved in these incidents.

You never hear reports of a border collie or Labrador going on the rampage....

that's the thing with your staffy type dogs or your mastiff type dogs etc if they aint looked after properly and don't have the training all dogs should have they can do a hell of a lot of damage, granted you always have a bad apple in any breed of dog but because of the strengh and prey drive of the stronger dogs they can easily kill a human, I did hear though that some famous dog trainer in america dubbed labs the most aggressive dog he's worked with and their are incidents of them mauling kids, getting a good bloodline when requiring a staffy or bull mastiff etc is a must, we met our puppys parents who were so loving and had great temperaments and that's also a thing to look into,

I can tell I'm wasting my time but all I'll say is comparing the manner of a 'Staffy' to the manner of a 'pit pull' is like comparing a Ford Fiesta to a Ferrari. They are Com.PLETE.ley different animals. Now I don't doubt for a second that many (not all) of the owners are often tatooed tossers that all look the same, but the actual dogs could not be more different. Which is a shame because, as you've just demonstrated, Staffys and regular English bull terriers get a bad press by association that is totally undeserved.

I just find staffys so bloody loving and although I've not had to much contact with english bull terriers I've heard they are very family orientated though and very loving, right as for pitbulls I'm gonna stick up for them and say they also are a very loyal family dog and at one point was the dog of choice for many families back in the day, superb dog which has yet again had the media on its back because morons decide to train them to fight , anyone that treats a dog or any animal cruely deserves to have its throat ripped out by that animal, totaly agree staffys and pitbulls are diff dogs

The English bull is a clown in a dog suit. Everything is a toy. Also one of the few dogs that doesn't mind something new coming in to its family i.e. it isn't in the least bit jealous like most other dogs. As for Pit Bulls. The trouble is that they've been bred like that so it's handed down in their genes. The tough ones survived and they're the ones who've passed on their traits. The other problem with them is not so much the manner of the good ones but rather what they're capable of once they do snap. They only ever need to snap once and they'll do untold damage. I've read 3 articles in the past month relating to fatalities. I really wish the 3 breeds didn't share the word 'bull' in their name because it's too easy for people who don't know any better to just lump them together.

ye I read they were the clown of the dog world, I understand what your saying about pitbull's and we all know its the number one choice for dog fighters and for good reason to but they are also used as family dogs and are very loving and loyal to their families, I suppose what it is with the pitbulls is that they have been breed to fight for so long that your always gonna get more bad pitbulls than other dogs, just like the pitbull the staffy and english terrier were fighting dogs and were very good to but they have been more domesticated as the years have gone on, pitbulls are banned over here for a reason and I respect that but they are by no means devil dogs as the media portray, for every bad pitbull you have so many great ones, another fine figure of a dog which is also banned over here is the dogo argentino which is a superb looking dog but was breed for large game hunting so maybe it would not be a wise choice to have one of those as a pet, huge responsibility is on the owners of any type of dog

As with anything its not the dogs fault, those 'type' of breeds can just be the same as labs and collies its just how they are brought up. Staffies bull dogs etc can be just as caring and loving as all other breeds.

Far too many people think having a dog is easy, its a 10+ year commitment which far too many people fail to realise, too many dogs out there who are not trained or corrected or even socialised probably the most important thing you can do with a young dog.

My 3yo labrador has strained his ACL and has been prescribed anti inflammatories and rest, ideally in an area the size of a laundry for the next 2-3 weeks

Hmmm.

Good luck with that. When our Lab was spayed at 18 months, the vet said something similar. Let's just say that once she was back home, she went bonkers. Luckily the stitches held out.

On the subject of loyal dogs....

Dogs are ace. I have a 3 year old labradoodle called Mya. Getting a black dog when having cream carpets in the house was a shit idea though.
