Our 16 month old dog stopped eating on Saturday.  Vomiting and diarrhoea Sunday onwards. Barely drinking.   3 visits to the vet so far and they still don't know what's wrong with him.  So far it's a bill over nearly £900 and that's without knowing what might happen tomorrow (scans, trays, etc). The bill wouldn't be a huge issue if I hadn't been furloughed since April.  Insurance may cover the cost but we've still got to find the money first.  Makes you feel useless that you can't help them 😥 he's normally such a bundle of energy, now he's swaying where he stands.

Is the loved one prone to eating socks?

We've spent more than $20,000AUD (no lie) on our poor old Groodle. She's just turned 10.

We've not noticed him eating anything he shouldn't but you can't keep sn eye on them everywhere they go.  We'll see how he is this morning and get him back to the vet again if necessary.

$20,000? Geez did insurance cover that?

So yesterday they did a scan and found a foreign body which they operated on to remove.  It turned out to be heavy gas.  Problem is he's not improved (still not eating,  barely drinking).  Only area which hasn't been xrayed is the top end of his throat just after the mouth.  The vet said they can't do this and he'll need to see a specialist for an endoscopy.  Specialist usually means £££ and the insurance isn't worth the paper its written on.   We might be able to cover this cost but if that comes back clean how much further do you go, especially when finances are already tight ☹

Head up mate, i totally understand. Ive got a baby coming in 3 months, so cant afford any of mine's surgery. Especially as i stopped coaching, just as long as hes not in too much pain enjoy the time youve got with him.

Quick update,  no real progress at the vet.  The specialist they wanted to refer us to quoted £3000 for a consultation and CT scan.  That's just too much so we've been recommended a different vet who has seen what appear to be similar cases previously.   The referral has gone over and we're waiting for a call from them.   It's so stressful,  the dynamic of the house has changed and the other half is in bits.  Need a change in fortune ASAP.

Yes however it's not worth it once you actually start making a claim.   We believed we had £2000 cover annually, however it's actually £500 per condition with a maximum of 4 claims per year.  That doesn't include the excess.

Sorry to hear that.

Reason I asked is that I just talked to my colleague about it. His GS had issues and while I can't remember the exact spesifics, I think the insurance fell off to 15% after x amount of visits.

Think he paid around £ 600 a year in coverage.

So we've spoken to the vet who we've been referred to, and now they tell us they aren't taking on referrals because of staff shortages.   Couldn't they have told us when we spoke yesterday,  and when the referral was made Monday :bang:

He sicked up a shard of bone last night and we thought that might have been causing the problem.   Took him to the new vet this morning, who've done a chest xray and he's got additional foreign bodies in his throat.   The vet said they'll try and remove them via an endoscopy but it could go either way.

With this and supporting Villa,  life can be pretty shitty sometimes.

Well we got Bear home yesterday.   The vets were concerned he wasn't eating for them so asked if we'd try him at home.   He's eating OK for us, we're not expecting too much too soon but its looking hopeful.  He has no interest in taking his medication though! No matter what we try he just knows he doesn't want it.  Now we're looking for a way to earn extra cash to pay the lovely 8k bill he's run up - most things considered 😆
