DUNTONVILLA
Makoun 9. Friedel 7.5 Downing, Dunne and Collins 4 Petrov 3 Everyone else 6. Makoun was superb, better than any centre mid United had. Defenders cost us the game, nice to see Benty on the scoresheet again. I agree with this. Makoun calm, strong, good passer and did not give the ball away. Would like to see him partner bradley on saturday instead of petrov.
villanesque
Makoun MoTM to me. Friedal close second. I give Houllier some bonus points at the end for trying to throw the offensive kitchen sink onto the pitch in hopes of scoring. Think Reo-Coker should have played instead of Petrov. Think Stan feels the hot air of Makoun and Bradley breathing down his neck.
dbsboots
Makoun was very good. Why was Petrov whinging? He has been awful for ages. Some cheek on him. He will definitely be dumped in the summer. He's old, slow and completely off the pace. I hated him as captain, and still hate him.
Milfner
Makoun was great, Petrov was the exact opposite. Young was quiet in the middle, so much better on the wing. Darren Bent is a snip at £18m. 2 in 3, thank you very much. Overall, a good performance, nice football in parts, but at the end of the day they are a better team and that's why they won. AVFC-Prideofbrum
Think we made a mistake in playing Walker, the defence looks so much better with Cuellar in it.Agree. Although agreed generally, none of the goals today were really his fault or much to do with him. Tried to block 3rd one but that was it. Other two goals came the other side of the pitch. pete165
Makoun was sensational. Never wasted a pass, always kept the ball, looked forwards when he could and his movement off the ball was a thing that every other team seems to have but we never do. Until now! Promising. kurtsimonw
I thought we played quite well. Ball retention and going forward I think we look very, good, certainly better than in the past. Makoun was very impressive and I think Downing played pretty well out right after a pretty indifferent performance at Wigan. I know it's United, but defensively we need to sort it out a bit. As well as we played, Fridel kept the scoreline from being an embarassing one. Clark against a top winger like Nani was just a disaster waiting to happen and Dunne didn't have the best of games. Thought Heskey had some good touches when he came on, seemed to be playing with some confidence.
Shillzz
Well done to everyone for taking this result sensibly, thus far. Stand out performances: Makoun was one of the best players on the pitch regardless. Friedel did well all night. Bent scored, that's what he's there to do, so another successful game from him. Everyone else lacked desire, apart from Young, who did his best, but nothing came off for him. Maybe lacking desire is a bit harsh, but perhaps too accepting of defeat. Defense were indeed poor tonight but lets hope its just a blip as theyve done well lately.
Stu_The_Villan
Friedel 9 Dunne 5 Clark 6 Collins 5 Walker 7 Downing 6 A Young 6 Albrighton 5 Makoun 9 Petrov 3 Bent 7 MoM was close between friedel and Makoun but for me, Makoun just shaded it. He played a part in everything good we did and looks a class above anything we have at CM
AVFC-Prideofbrum
Overall, sometimes you just have to put your hands up and accept we were beaten by a better team. Makoun man of the match. Friedel was good also. Petrov was terrible to be honest.
billy_loes
Didnt take long for Makoun to get up to Prem speed did it?
thunderball
Never mind. Play like that and the futures bright. Positives: Makoun, Makoun, Makoun........ oh and Friedel, Bent, possession, movement in the middle, thought Walker was OK too Negatives: GH's positive starting 11, 1-0 after 50seconds, Collins & Dunne, lack of penetration, GH willing to sub and shake it up. This is where we kick on, this is the business end of the season. I'm up beat.....
The_Rev
No real complaints, we were beaten by a better side. Lots of good individual performances I thought, especially from Brad and Makoun. Ash looked very good when he was moved out wide. On another day the one that hit the bar might have gone in and we might have had a penalty, but our season wont be judged on our result at Old Trafford. The other positive I will take is Darren Bent. I think we now know what we are getting with him, a player very much like Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, in that he can be on the fringes of a game all night and still score a goal. For a club that have specialised in fizzing balls across a deserted six yard box for years now, having a man who will be in the right place at the right time to score the goals we need is a very nice thing. badminton
We should all keep in mind that tonight we were away against the team that is likely to win the league. We looked comfortable on the ball, Makoun in particular. Had a few decent chances and sloppy defensive play cost us getting any kind of result. Lots of positives to take into the next few games. Mantis
So what was it like? I didn't even follow this one due to the inevitability of the result. Nice to see Darren score though. I just hope this doesn't damage the confidence of the players.
jimcohen
Predictable result, but not a bad performance. So, what did we learn about this developing side... Bent scores goals - 8 Makoun looks great in possession , strong in the tackle and an eye for a pass - 9 Young is a lot better on the wings, and dare I say it, back to form - 8 Downing is better when running at pace rather than cutting back and swinging it in. 6 Petrov can still go missing - 3 Albrighton is not a finished artical yet (which is air enough!) - 4 Dunne and Collins cannot play a high line but are good players, lets not all slag them off. - 5 Clark can do a job at LB, but he is a CB playing there, lets not forget this. - 5 Walker looks good going forward, ok at the back, but does overplay A LOT! 6 Friedel - Has another year in him yet surly! 10 Bring on Fulham and another 3 points
jat_r
Makoun was amazing today. What a signing by GH. We played quite well but Man Utd are Man Utd, undefeated all season and the leagues top scorers it was always going to be a hard task. We showed character to get a goal back but you can't stop a goal like Vidic's. I liked that even though we were 2 goals down GH still tried to get a result with his substitutions. We gave a decent account of ourselves despite losing. 6 points out of 9 from Man City, Wigan and Man Utd, not bad.
lmarsha_926
Wigan drew so still 5 points above them have playing the same number of games. Next 3 games Fulham (H) Blackpool (A) Blackburn (H) 3 wins almost secures survival. With Petrov he could of been disappointed with the result and his performance we just dont know
