The Arab Spring and "the War on Terror"

What is the diffrence between sunni and shia ?

Why dont they get along ?

It's 2 sects of Islam.

The split first occurs due to differences of opinion over who would succeed Muhammad when he died. That caused a war which has subsequently split the religion. They also have slightly different takes on other matters, like which parts of the other Islamic holy text, the hadith, are accepted and how they are interpreted.

Basically, usual nonsense as any split in religious groups, but this one has a war at it's heart about a fundamental part of the religion at it's founding so is more bloody than you'd usually see.

In the past couple of months they've lost land to the YPG, Assad & Hezbollah are about to push out from Aleppo, threatened Russia and are now threatening Israel.

They may have been clever with some tactics, but threatening Russia and Israel is very, very stupid. Countries that don't abide with 'the rules' like most Western nations do are not who you want to be going for.

Surely it will be hard for Israel to attack IS as the countries where they are based will see it as an attack on themselves and in turn see it as an excuse to attack back?

In a way, you've got to love Russia, because they're **** nutters who don't give a shit, love vodka and fighting.

IS threatening Russia is like an and threatening to take down a 300 year old oak tree on its own. Good luck with that.

Israel wont do **** all to ISIS

Why not ?
They just wont, quote me if they ever do..

They would, but only if IS look like they are doing too well.  Several months ago IDF units in the Golan Heights "allegedly" gave fire support to JaN forces (official Al Qaeda in Syria) that were taking a pasting from Assad's Syrian regulars. It's also rumoured that several dozen JaN fighters have received medical aid in Israel.  Given that pedigree if they judge that IS is becoming a direct threat then the IDF/Mossad will not shrink from hitting them.

All of that misses the point that Israel is the 'far enemy' in terms of timelines and far down their to-do list - other than for rhetorical purposes and the odd propaganda stunt. The real interest/ambition of IS is in toppling the regimes of existing Muslim countries (the jewels in that crown being Saudi and Egypt) and asserting the primacy/exclusivity of their religious doctrine - using the traditional/historical Islamic ultimatum of "submit, convert or die".

Although IS are still taking and losing ground in different areas, strategically they are continuing to do well and the Islamic State will not be disappearing any time soon. On the plus side the resulting availability of family accommodation in the north of England and Luton is up due to our own Jihadi migrants heading east, so that can be used to house the Syrian survivors they are displacing.  Reckon there is a TV show in this somewhere.... maybe 'House Swap Hell'- how a family from Raqqa moved to Dewsbury and became radicalised by the Police, MI5 and British intolerance.
