love it

1) the joy of all that vicarious excitement from the nippers

2) construction sites close down and the phone stops ringing

3) 3 day champagne haze (my treat to myself, 6 bottles of varying quality already in stock)

4) Boxing day morning on the beach, regardless of weather

5) me cooking the mother of all rolling feasts all day long for the family

Not so much as I've gotten older, the excitement and expectations have kind of gone.

As a kid I'd put the mince pie and drink out for Father Christmas, not forgetting a carrot and water for Rudolph, then off to bed were I'd be too excited to sleep. Wake up at 7 to find a bulging stocking (or 'Santa sack') at the end of my bed, and then off downstairs to see what seemed like a huge mountain of presents that have appeared overight. Open them, play until it dinner time, have a great dinner, then later on people would come over and we'd all have a great time....

But nowadays, theres no Father Christmas or Rudolph to leave things out for, no huge pile of presents. It gets to about 2am and I decide to go to bed, get up at about 8-9, we all open the presents we've asked for so no real surprises, have dinner and no one comes over anymore so thats about it, Christmas ends here at about 2pm on the 25th December.

Maybe I need a visit from the Ghost of Christmas past :notsure:

I still enjoy it, obviously not in the same way as when I was a kid but still; I'll be flying back mid-December to see all the family, friends and relatives that I haven't seen in almost a year. Really enjoy the food, togetherness and general time to relax. So yeah, I still like it.

Actually, it doesn't feel that Christmasy here right now - the decorations are up everywhere but it's 75 degrees (~24C) and blue skies.

Interesting reading 40% don't like the Celebration. The rip off commercialism that now surrounds it...

means some families just get into further debt trying to pay for it all. You can understand them dreading it!

Commercialism is pretty much what Christmas is about over here. :(

Quit complaining it's 30C every Christmas in Singapore :winkold: plus it's so humid around here they say it really feels much hotter than that.

Absolutely love it.

Love the run up to it, the booze, the presents, the food, seeing the family, seeing a lot of my old school friends on christmas eve and all the football. Love attending a good ol' Villa boxing day fixture.

Of course non of that will be happening this year :(

I love it....

Plenty of booze, cooking for the family, the tv, time off work, parties, the trees with lights on, the lights on every high street in fact pretty much everything about christmas I love.

I am 37 and have always loved christmas (in fact the whole of december) even before I had my daughter and it gets better now I have a little one (she is 4).

More or less this (well, apart from I'm 39 and my daughter is 5).

For me, the build up to Christmas is far greater then the day itself. I love it when December starts, the advent calanders, putting up the decorations and just generally a lot of happy people.

With the German Market set to open this coming Thursday (25th) - it's a real sign that it's fast approaching.

I know that it will be a nightmare walking down New Street and Victoria Square over the next 5 weeks, and the shops will be manic - but that is what Xmas is all about.

I actually don't booze that much over Christmas these days, as we go visiting thus driving a fair bit - and gone are the days of spending most of Xmas Eve in the pub. Last year took my daughter to the cinema and it was great.

The only bit of Christmas I don't enjoy is the numerous adverts on TV of all the sales starting - and from 27th December onwards is just horrible.

Favourite time of the year :thumb:

It will probably return to 'Just another holiday' status once my girls are grown up though. :(

Don't worry, in a few years time they'll have their own kids so it'll be kind of the same all over again. :) I don't have any children so obvisoulsy I'm not a grandfather but I have loads of nieces and nephews and it's great. And I expect some of them to get their own kids before me.

Anyway, I love christmas for so many reasons. Best weekend of the year.

Not the biggest fan, it's my birthday on xmas eve so i'm usually majorly hungover on xmas day and not in the most sociable of moods. Saying that one of the locals does a good lock in xmas day night which is good fun. I also enjoy boxing day when the Villa are playing at home.

This xmas i shall be sunning it up on a beach in Thailand though which will be different :D

Love Christmas for the 3 or 4 days that it lasts. Hate all the bs in the lead up to it.

Oh and I hate when the Salvation Army band turns up everywhere for the 6 weeks ahead of Christmas playing Good King Wenceslas everywhere you go.

Having two kids ages 8 & 4 I voted yes, christmas is wonderful and I look forward to it.

Does Santa like Ginger's ?

I was always told he curled out a turd for all the ginger kids and they all believed it was proper chocolate.

I've always enjoyed Christmas, but you're right, having kids (mine are 5 and 2) makes it all the more special.
