AngelGabriel
With Man United's problems, Arsenals injury curse, and Liverpools uh..situation.. and with teams like Everton, Villa, Spurs and of course Manchester City all starting to get back on track again and improve, could this be the year the Big Four collapses? CarewsEyebrowDesigner
The big 4 ended a while ago, it's a big 2 and will remain that way with one of the Manchester teams joining Chelsea at the end of the season.
blandy Posted October 19, 2010 Moderator Share Posted October 19, 2010 It seems like the start of it. Liverpool clearly are out, Man U look ordinary by their standards, Arsenal and Chelsea look well set for now, but the money side of it - their spending is not particularly high, so it's evening up a bit. Man City aren't there yet, Spurs are doing well and there are others who have a chance to nip in. All of which is good.
nobler
I think it's perfectly feasible that Spurs and City could finish in the top 4 this year. So yep, I believe with all the financial problems starting to arise, the various changes in UEFA financial regulations we may well see a more open, competetive league in the years to come. Who knows, if we conduct ourselves properly financially, build on the squad well, we could very much take advantage.
The_Rev
It happened last year, surely?
TheDon
Chelsea have an ageing squad as well. It's not inconceivable to think they won't be anywhere near as strong in a couple of seasons. A more competitive league is definitely on the horizon.
TrentVilla Posted October 19, 2010 Moderator Share Posted October 19, 2010 The end of the Big Four? Well one of them finished 7th last season and is currently in the bottom 3 without a prayer of returning to the top 4 this year so I think its already happened which makes the poll question a little redundant. AVFC-Prideofbrum
Chelsea are the only team guarenteed a top 4 finish in my opinion. From there, I can't say any team will finish top 4 for definite.
Zatman
I still think Chelsea, Manure and Arsenal will occupy top 3. If Citeh get 4th they could be locked again for a while
LancsVillan Posted October 19, 2010 Moderator Share Posted October 19, 2010 Read this and thought the title was: "Is this the season the 'Big Four' gets smashed in TWO?" Which may be only slightly different but I think it's nearer the truth.
jonno_2004
It already has.
Mark8691
Depends whats meant by smashed. But outside the usual top 4. Only Man Shitty and Spurs are in a position to take any possible advantage of it this season. L'pool already out of it as already mentioned. AVFC_Hitz
I don't think its the end of the 'Big 4'. I do think however there will be a different big 4. As for domination by 4 teams in the league then no, it hasn't ended.

leviramsey Posted October 22, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted October 22, 2010 Current top 7 in my PL-only power rankings (difference in ratings between 2 clubs is what I'd expect the average goal difference between the two clubs over an infinite number of games on a neutral field) [table] [mrow]Chelsea[col]100.76 [mrow]Man City[col]100.25 [mrow]Arsenal[col]100.18 [mrow]Man Utd[col]100.09 [mrow]Blackpool[col]100.04 [mrow]Spurs[col]100.02 [mrow]Sunderland[col]100.00 [/table] .51 goals per game separates Chelsea from 2nd-ranked City; within .51 goals of City I have (in addition to the above) everybody else bar Wigan. It's Chelsea at the top, Wigan at the bottom, and everybody else in an amorphous mass between. It's been a very strange season from a numbers perspective (no numbers stranger than the larger than normal home field advantage... Blackpool are buoyed by their away wins thus far as a consequence).
