regular_john
I'm taking the plunge, ordered a pull up bar and some push up bars today, hopefully they'll be here soon and I can get started. I don't have any weights though, can't really afford to buy any (student), can you substitute the weight reps for more pull/push ups? Anyone using the diet? How are you getting on? bcarpet
RJ - I'd say you cannot do without weights for some of the exercises such as 'heavy pants' but maybe you could find things in the kitchen to use? Like bags of sugar or some thing? I'm just using my own diet, couldnt be bothered trying to read through all theirs lol. I did the back and legs workout yesterday (should have been Friday's but i switched them around). My legs felt ok by the end of it, very tired and weak but much better than I expected. This morning however, much different story! I'm so sore! I'm walking a little bit like John Wayne this morning.

Stevo985 Posted November 18, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted November 18, 2010 rj, like the don said, resistance bands. I got a ste of 4 different resistance bands for about 15 quid. Not really breaking the bank. You definitely need them for some exercises, arms and shoulders for example. Did the arms and shoulders yesterday. It was ok. Hard, but not as exhausting as monday and tuesday. The ab ripper screwed me over again though! Yoga tonight. Quite looking forward to it, but it's 90 minutes long! bcarpet
Yoga tonight. Quite looking forward to it, but it's 90 minutes long! 90 minutes?! Christ didn't realise it was that long! I've never done yoga before so i'll be quite interested to see how I get on and what its like.
Stevo985 Posted November 18, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted November 18, 2010 I'm not gonna lie, i assumed it was going to be more relaxing than the others, btu I've had a look online and people are saying it's really really hard!

I'm following the diet roughly, but to be honest it's nothing different from any other get fit diets (real ones, not fad diets) Low carb, high protein, low fat. 5 small meals a day rather than 3 big ones to keep the metabolism going. Was intedning to follow the meal plan but it would cost a fortune to buy all the shit and take all day to cook it in preperation for the next day. So just doing it by the portion plan. Unfortunately for me in the paqst, knowing what's good for me to eat and actually eating it are 2 completely different matters
regular_john
Did the chest and back workout today, hard as nails! I thought I'd been making decent progress after hitting the gym regularly over the last couple of months, although that has been after a LONG period of non-exercise, but the workout today damn near killed me. Managed to just about get through the two rounds of the exercises, but my numbers in the second round were pathetically low, 0 on a couple of the exercises. Not sure now whether to plough on through with P90X or dial it down a notch, do P90 and then step it up to P90X afterwards. Ordered some resistance bands off Amazon though, gradually forming my own home gym!
Stevo985 Posted November 18, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted November 18, 2010 Plow on mate. I was the same. Second round of diamond pressups I couldn't do one, so I had to widen my hands. It's supposed to be really tough at first, because it's the same video used throughout. So people on week 12 are using the same videos. Also, the side tricep lifts at the end of the arms and shoulders routine are impossible. i don't know if I was doing them wrong, but I couldn't even move myself, let alone lift myself up. bcarpet
Well I didn't like the yoga one last night. It was very tough, they moved very quickly and I couldn't do all of the moves. I did 45 minutes and decided that was enough for the first time. I'm hoping it will get easier as the weeks go by.
Stevo985 Posted November 19, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted November 19, 2010 I loved the yoga. Really enjoyed it, a worrying amount. It was really really difficult, had to take a few breaks, but I've never done it before so was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I was also amazed at how much of a sweat I could work up with such little movement. bcarpet, after the first 45-50 minutes it changes from movement (which is the hard stuff) to balancing. The 45 minutes of balancing is a lot less tiring, it's all about balance (surprisingly) soo not as much sweating or aching. I loved it, although I must admit after 40 odd minutes I was getting sick of him getting me to upward dog, plank, downward dog, lift the heel- SHUT THE **** UP! Maybe I'll get on better with it next week. I was suprised at just how much sweat i produced doing this too! i looked like petrov by the end of the 45 minutes i did, it was literally dripping off me! Stevo985 Posted November 19, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted November 19, 2010 If you made 45 minutes this week, you only need to do 3 or 4 extra to get to the balancing. Then a lot of it is quite relaxing. Some of it is still hard but a lot less draining. And yeh "You can do a press up here if you want" I think i did the first one he suggested and then didn't bother. In fact I think I was shouting "**** THAT, TONY!" by the end of it.
VBM
Why not buy starting strength by riptoe ? A better more balanced work out AINEC
TheDon
Why not buy starting strength by riptoe ? A better more balanced work out AINEC You don't even need to buy it, there's a ton of resources for it online. I'd say P90x and starting strength have different goals though. P90x is all about shedding bodyfat, whereas starting strength is about building muscle mass.

markavfc40
Started this program yesterday after Stevo very kindly sent me a link. I consider myself reasonably fit but stamina wise I found the Chest/Back workout really tough and was really struggling with the last 3-4 exercises on the second round. It runs through at a fair old pace and you only get 30 seconds rest time every now and then which isn't the way I'd usually train when using weights. Not long finished the Plyometrics and even though it was tough actually really enjoyed it and felt by the end of it I'd had a really good workout which is obviously what you want if you are to achieve results. I'd have been disappointed if I'd have found it easy. So far so good then and the early signs are promising. Shoulders/Arms tomorrow so see how that goes. Stevo985 Posted November 21, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted November 21, 2010 Didn't do my Kenpo yesterday. I've got 3 exams next week so revision has taken priority. Got the day off work tomorrow so should have time to do my chest and back, but tuesday and wednesday's exercises may have to take a back seat to revision. Keeping up the diet though, and i played football this morning on my rest day so that should be ok.
bcarpet
I did the Kenpo, It was good fun actually! I'll need to speed up though over time if I am to keep up with the guys on the video.
