Basically there was a price glitch on their web site that allowed you to design and order the custom glasses for about 1/3 of the price. Put my order in for a pair that would usually cost about 160 quid and got email back from them with invoice details etc. When they realised it was a cock up on teh web site they cancelled the order - which is what most organisations would do. But they then followed it up with one saying that as a sign of goodwill on their part they would send me the glasses as per the order free of charge !!

Total result :-)

That's awesome.

Especially as I imagine if they'd just honoured the original order you'd have been perfectly happy with that.

To give them you free is a very good gesture.

Nice one, I'm guessing they had already made your custom glasses when they realised the error and would only have binned them so a good bit of customer service sending them out anyway.

The news from an outgoing member of staff (and good friend) that my former division - the one that made me redundant for the sake of a cost-cutting office move - is about to be sued for a massive breach of confidential information (2000 member profiles); a breach that myself and then boss warned could happen during the design of a new membership platform, but were promptly ignored by our dimwit Director.

**** lol.

A lot of senior managers / directors did not get to that position without being very good at shitting on those beneath them. Is there a risk the evidence of you flagging this up might get 'lost' and the blame being laid at yours and your boss's door? I'd start backing things up if I were you

Even if there was, neither me nor my boss work there anymore; he moved to different division just before the office move, then after a month of me sitting on my arse after the redundancy he calls me up and tells me he's made a job for me in his new team and brings me back. No, neither of us are anywhere near our old sector's remit, so we can just kick back, point and laugh heartilly.

The silly thing is that this breach is literally a case of someone having typed "DMH" as opposed to "DAH" and failing to notice before it was too late (I'm informed said newbie administrator is being hung out to dry, I feel a bit sorry for 'em as I know from experience they'll have had **** all training).

I ordered Virgin Media for my new place a couple of months ago, went via Quidco for £150 cashback. I cancelled the contract a few days later becasue 1) the TV channel selection wasn't worth paying for and 2) the wifi signal was dire and couldn't connect upstairs.

Dispite cancelling after only a couple of days the £150 cashback has just been paid

They arrived, fully customised as requested and have the normal Oakley guarantee on them also (that is a cracking replacement one if there any problems breakages etc) - top work by Oakley - now to find some sunshine

Charity shops can bring in a good haul if you're savvy.

Picked up a Biggles first edition a few years back. There are a few shops that are cottoning on to things now though. Oxfam Moseley £2.50 a book. Piss off.

Oxfam are a special case. About ten years ago they set up Oxfam Books as a specialist outlet and appointed a management team that knew all about the secondhand book trade (value of first editions, etc.)

This means that their shops are well organised (some of them are like mainstream retailers), but prices are way up on the way they used to be. The rest of the charity shops tend to have a disorganised pile of books, but if you're willing to dig through them you might just find a gem for 50p among the piles of Catherine Cooksons and Wilbur Smiths.

Personally, I don't begrudge Oxfam £2.49 for a paperback, bearing in mind it might just help somebody get a meal in Sudan or wherever.
