I got threw into the lurch so to speak this morning when the main chair had to pull out (too busy my arse) but things went surprisingly well. I even got emails after from the other panel members saying they appreciated my calm, thoughtful approach and it was a pleasure to form panels with me. It's been years since I've had to conduct interviews but the last time I did all the candidates were completely shit except for just one. Another was particularly bad, even a bit mental, all we knew what that he worked at the same company as the good candidate who we offered the job to. Me and the director who did the interviews were taking about the mental guy for ages and he said he can't wait to ask her about him when she joins. I sat with her first on her first morning for a bit of intro and meet the team before she was due to go over to this director. He'd repeated when he came in that he couldn't wait to get her opinion of this guy. Anyway I didn't mention it to her as I didn't want to piss on a directors chips but one of the first thing she said to me was that it was funny because she worked with her husband at her previous company and he'd also come for an interview here and not got the job. Turns out she hadn't changed her name when they were married. Some of the stories she told me about him over the years completely reinforced my opinion of him. Some were actually borderline scary, I sometimes felt like asking her why she was with him. I can't imagine for 1 second he took her beating him to the job well. In truth he was on a higher level than the job entailed, it would have been a step down and was a little part of how his antics unfolded. Why do I suspect he's taking one for the team?
