Can't make it to Hinckley tonight, so it's the OS text for me. Interesting side we've put out against West Ham.

Marshall, Berry, Baker, Williams, Lowry, Carruthers, Osbourne, Johnson, Herd, Cameron, Taylor. Subs: Burke, Parish, Drennan, Deeney, Halfhuid.

That's still a very reasonable midfield at this level. Which is some going considering we've got Petrov, Reo Coker, Sidwell, Delph and Gardner all injured.

It's a strong West Ham line up.

A bit of a none event of a game, an inexperienced Villa line up acquitted themselves pretty well but just didn't seem to have enough quality in the final third to make any real impression. It was so bloody cold !!! Nice little ground at Hinckley and an enjoyable trip but a game that wont live very long in the memory. Thought Shane Lowry was the pick of the Villa players in the centre of defence, and Chris Herd had a decent game.

Baggies go 3rd. Newcastle strengthen top spot in Northern 'A' and Liverpool stay top in Northern 'B' but that's gotta be 2pts dropped.

Good to see carew back in action

Match report: Villa Res 1-1 West Bromwich Albion Res

Pires and Carew in action as Delfouneso fires Villa to a point.

22nd Nov 2010

By Dan Harrison

Robert Pires and John Carew got some valuable match action under their belts as Villa's reserves drew against local rivals West Bromwich Albion.

The experienced duo played just over an hour of a lively second string encounter at Bodymoor Heath.

Nathan Delfouneso scored after the break for Kevin MacDonald's men to cancel out Lateef Elford-Alliyu's early penalty.

It was another encouraging display for the claret and blues, who are neck and neck with Arsenal at the top of the Southern Group.

Pires made his first start in Villa colours, 24 hours after his Premier League debut as a substitute against Blackburn Rovers, while Carew returned from a calf injury which kept him out of action since last month's goalless draw against Birmingham City.

Both men imposed themselves on the game but not before Alliyu put the Baggies in front.

With five minutes on the clock, Romaine Sawyers went down as he looked to go past Derrick Williams and Shane Lowry. A penalty was awarded and Alliyu stepped up to send Andy Marshall the wrong way.

Pires and Carew combined for Villa's first real opportunity. The Frenchman floated a cross to the back post which Carew headed down into the six-yard box. Delfouneso timed his arrival perfectly but nodded wide from close range.

Carew fashioned two opportunities with some fine work on the right hand side.

Firstly he wriggled past Joe Mattock and fired straight at goalkeeper Luke Daniel with his left foot. Two minutes later he crossed for Delfouneso, whose glancing header trimmed the far post.

Skipper Shane Lowry called Daniels into action again before the break with a fierce drive from the edge of the area which was pushed to safety.

The hosts continued in positive fashion after the break - Daniels making another fine save to tip away a Michael Drennan effort which seemed destined for the top corner.

And an equaliser nearly arrived when Isaiah Osbourne latched on to Chris Herd's knockback from a Pires free-kick but Osbourne saw his header hacked off the line by Akil Grier.

Sawyers blasted over from the edge of the box for Albion after a neat exchange with James Hurst - but it was Villa who looked most likely to add to the scoring.

The equaliser finally came on 71 minutes when Delfouneso raced on to Eric Lichaj's throw-in, motored towards goal and expertly fired across Daniels for his fifth goal of this reserve campaign.

VILLA: Marshall, Lichaj, Williams, Lowry, Deeney, Pires, Osbourne, Herd, Drennan, Delfouneso, Carew. Subs: Berry, Parish, Johnson (for Pires, 62), Cameron (for Carew, 62), Burke (for Drennan, 73).

WEST BROM: Daniels, Zuiverloon, Mattock, Grier, Meite, Downing, Berahino, Hurst, Elford-Alliyu, Sawyers, Roofe. Subs: Gayle (for Berahino, 75), Lewis, Connolly, Mannion (for Roofe, 55), Garmston.

A report on the Leicester OS

Apparently Dunne played!

Leicester City Reserves 2-2 Aston Villa Reserves

Posted on: Wed 15 Dec 2010

Leicester City's reserve side earned a creditable 2-2 draw against Aston Villa Reserves, behind closed doors today at the Bodymoor Heath Training Ground.

Chris Powell's men competed against a very strong Villa side, which included the likes of Richard Dunne, Stephen Ireland, Robert Pires, John Carew, Nigel Reo-Coker and Nathan Delfounuso, with the Foxes actually leading 2-1 at one stage.

City fielded three trialists for the game, Bernard Parker and Danny Uchechi who played in a front three alongside Matty Fryatt, and midfielder Paul Obiefule.

Reserve Manager, Chris Powell, said: "Villa started very strongly and showed their quality, but we grew more confident as the game went on and played particularly well in the second-half.

"I thought that Matty Fryatt took his goal very well and Bruno Berner whipped in a great cross for Bernard Parker to put us 2-1 up. We had the chances to win the game and I am disappointed that we let them grab an equaliser, but that's football."

The game was a useful exercise for City, offering the chance for several players on the periphery of the first-team to stake their claim for regular action, and for academy graduates and trialists alike to prove their worth. With Sven-Goran Eriksson and Derek Fazackerley in attendance, there was a real tempo to the game and Powell was clearly pleased.

"Reserve team football has suffered in recent years in league format, which is a real shame. However, the standard of this game was fantastic. I'm delighted that we managed to arrange the game before the busy Christmas period and I'm sure that the lads will all have benefitted from the test that Aston Villa presented."

City: Logan; Neilson, Berner, Morrison, Lamey; Moussa, Teixeira, Obiefule; Parker, Fryatt, Uchechi.

Subs: Brennan, Crncic (on for Fryatt, 75), O'Neill (on for Neilson, 80), Bolger, John, Milnes (on for Teixeira, 75), Hicks.
