He trained for the whole week before Fulham. There were pictures and the club even made a big deal of it by posting this...

I don't think they would have done this if he wasn't ever going to be fit for Fulham. He just had a recurrence of the injury on Saturday and had to pull out.

This did happen, and what has resulted in this injury taking longer to recover from than it should have.

They rushed him back, and I have no doubt Grealish was as much at fault (if not more so) as the club for this. If the injury is so mysterious as to have no real expected layoff period, and presumably something that is hard to judge from scans, they have to rely on the player feedback.

Shame for all concerned.

Only saving grace is it will put others off trying to buy him. As for our form, his legacy,  England Euro chances, they're all taking a hit as a result.

Maybe Jack Grealish is a cgi creation made by the club just so they can mess with heads like they're doing now. I'm not sure what they'd gain from it though. Maybe Smith feeds on adult anger?

I have to say i think the management of this injury has been poor from the club.

Very vague info telling us it was nothing to worry about yet he has been out for 2 months.

Smith then says he was rushed back. He has had a similar injury before why am they not getting a specialist in for this kind of injury?

We have no idea what this injury is other than vague references to his shin. How do you know the management of it has been poor from the start other than the fact that you don’t like it ? and what makes you so sure they haven’t involved the world leader in shin injuries just because it hasn’t been splattered all over every news outlet available doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. The manager has stated he will be led by Jack,  perhaps last week he was mis-led which resulted in the rushing back comment, not the clubs fault but a very impatient player itching to play before he is ready so he can play in the euros.

It’s amazing how some fans are blaming Smith or making out there’s something more going on, give your heads a wobble, it’s an injury that’s had a set back... THAT’S IT!

It's the age of the internet. Everything has to be a conspiracy now.

IF the injury is related to shin splints then from what I know, having suffered mildly with it on and off for the past decade or so, is that it is never serious and doesn't cause long term damage, however it is something that will reoccur now and then and the best way to deal with it is rest. It's a frustrating injury as day to day you feel absolutely fine but once you start running it can be extremely uncomfortable. It may be something we have to manage with him now and then but I don't think it will cause long term damage.

One of the delivery drivers who came to our work today is adamant Jack is off to City for 100m and his head has been turned, that's why he's not playing.

Honestly, it's always a drama with us Villa fans isn't it?

Injury can reoccur and unfortunate it looks like it happened to Jack. Sucks obviously for both him and the club, but is what it is, and good luck to him and will love whenever he does come back.  Just means the rest of the squad needs to step it up a bit.

Also, I don't believe in conspiracy theories and never will, especially in so far as his head has been turned and he is refusing to play as it were.

Ita poor because of the vague ness of what they telling us. First saying couple weeks then a month and now its been 8 weeks.

That suggests to me they have totally got this all wrong at the club.  In my opinion they have made a complete mess of this as even smith says they rushed him back

In fairness, Smith has always said from the start that we'd be dictated by Jack and how he's feeling and just to take it game by game.

Given the nature of this shin injury, I'm not sure what more you expected the club to do?

Shin splints can take an age to heal if they never get rested long enough, 8 weeks out with shin splints is nothing, a truly frustrating injury to have, as until you are playing/training you won’t know if you are healed fully, you could think you are fully healed and then once force starts going through the bones again the shin splints come back.

Depends how bad the shin splints are in the first place, if they are bad, you could be out for 6 months +.

Yes, Andy Cole was out for ages with shin splits when at Utd (9 months I think).
