I get a bit confused with the rules, in tier 2 you aren't allowed to go out to dinner with one person even if you work with them?  For some reason I thought you were allowed to meet with one person indoors at somewhere selling food regardless of who they are.

Maybe the reason why mcginn looks so laboured lately is because he is stuffing his face with chunky monkey ice cream because of Jack and Ross's sordid relationship.

Not ice cream it’s pizza. Couple of times I walked past his house and the pizza delivery guy is ringing the gates to get in.

if they were you or i, who had gone for food/beers with a colleague from an office, we'd have broken the rules. but i think they count as a bubble...i mean, they do close contact competitive training on a near daily basis so i think they're fine

I am curious why people think this isn't a problem? Hes breaking the government guidelines that say you shouldn't socialise indoors with people outside your family/support bubble. Last I checked, colleagues don't qualify. If there is a legal exemption for PL footballers fine, but I presume it doesn't apply to them talking face to face sans mask with random members of the public in a pub.

If you want to throw in the fact that they play football in close proximity to each other and hence are subject to a separate ruling that says they're allowed to socialise outside of their employment context, fine, show me where the government guidelines say this is permitted. Yes, the rules may be a joke,  yes you may question how the government are handling things,  but they're still in breach of them.

That is irrespective of whether the other parts of the story are true. If they are, does it not make you wonder if they care whether they get covid or not? Presumably they expect our game would get cancelled if they did, and they get another weekend off.

Not sure it's headline worthy, given the context,  but you can't say it's a non story if a current England star is seen breaking government guidelines.

It's a little naughty if true and as always players should be setting a shining example. Personally I couldnt give a toss as I'm sick of people trying to micro manage what others do. Just look after yourself is what I say! The most annoying aspect is getting stick from rival fans as you just know its the highlight of the sad little coqwombles lives 😂

I can't believe that going for a meal with another player on your team is not allowed. I don't know obviously but I'd be pretty confident that this is allowed under the terms of their Premier League bubble. Villa have come out and said that they were complying with rules and I'd like to think they'd made sure this was the case before saying it.

As for the rest of the story, do we even have any proof that they were talking face to face sans mask with random members of the public? They were also in a restaurant rather than a pub. The fact that the Sun initially reported them as being in breach due to travelling from a Tier 3 to a Tier 2 area despite them both living in Tier 2 areas doesn't give me a great deal of confidence in the factual accuracy of the article. Additionally they make reference to a video of the pair at a restaurant in London. Would this video not be available if it was so damning of them?

I've criticised Jack in the past where I've felt it necessary. The only facts we know are that he and Barkley have gone to a restaurant in London on a weekend off without a match. If Villa are happy with their conduct then I'm not going to use "The Sun's sources" as a stick to beat them with. Its not as if The Sun doesn't have previous with regards to fabricating stories is it!

Replace the bolded bit with "it".

But to expect the press not to make a situation of it, is madness. He has breached the rules before,  he has since become the most high profile English player in the country. Its what happens.

Neither of us know if there is an exemption for PL players or not. Neither of us know if they actually did even speak to anyone outside the party he was there with, or if the group of people there all fell within any hypothetical "sporting bubble" that Barkley has formed. Given they travelled to London I'd be surprised if they were.

We do know tier 2 regulations state they shouldn't be meeting each other indoors, or anyone else from outside their support bubble. Agree it would be a farce if PL footballers didn't have an exemption on this point, given they effectively form a bubble in training, but for this exemption to stand I'd expect that they should be held to a higher standard than other people.  Especially so given the increased risk they pose with spreading it to others within the club,  and the direct impact it has on their employer's ability to function.

It's at best a bit naive of them to do this and the club should remind them of their responsibilities at a time like this (I imagine they have privately),  at worst, a breach of government guidelines that risks them spreading Covid around Aston Villa, which they will be targeted for given their role in the public eye.

We don't actually know what they've done though. They've gone to an expensive restaurant in London for Barkley's birthday. Villa have stated that they have complied with the relevant Covid guidelines. We have no idea who else was there with them or what their conduct was like while there. Why would we rush to accuse them of breaking rules without any evidence to suggest they have?

If the two players have followed Covid restrictions to have a meal out for Ross Barkley's birthday then I have no issue with that at all. If any evidence comes out which shows they haven't been following restrictions then I completely agree with what you are saying. Until that evidence comes out then I'm not going to start accusing them of anything.

He's the best young prospect I've ever seen in the youth teams, by far the best player of his age in the country, he's a wonderful talent and to be honest comparing him to Adam Johnson is doing Grealish a disservice because he will be 10x the player Johnson is.

Well he wasn't wrong...
