How do you think players personal terms usually get sorted out so quick once a fee is agreed? Agents should be banned from the game... He can’t stop that going in the papers, unlike his other endeavours. Ahh yes.. the hoops of fire players have to jump through to suit an England call up for a typical 23 year old... It starts like this- "You have to be playing in the premier league" Player transfers to PL team. Done. "You have to be playing for a top 6 team" Player transfers to a top 6 team. Done. {although now in a rotation basis with this top 6 team and seeing no at much game time as they should} "You have to be playing regular first team football" Player transfers out of top 6 team in order to find guaranteed first team football. Done Too late... the player is now 29 and there are better younger players more suitable, but he may get a call up for an international friendly on a cold wet Wednesday somewhere. The end. Popular Post MadridVilla
Bit late to the Athletic pile-on, but anyway... So Stuart James claimed Grealish was "devastated" at not joining Spurs, and carried that devastation with him for a month. Except in the Telegraph article from 2 years ago his second-hand journalism is taken from, Grealish admits that "it's not like I was devastated it didn't happen". He actually said "obviously there's going to be disappointment there" and that had he joined Spurs he would have been in the England squad that season, but that he "realises how lucky I am to be playing for my boyhood club". I've only just subscribed to the Athletic and, while for the most part their general football journalism and coverage of American sports is first-rate, as many people have already said the Villa coverage is lagging behind. Why am I expected to pay for journalism that deliberately misquotes an article from 2 years ago, when they could easily have said truthfully that Jack was disappointed but happy to stay nonetheless. 3

Or you can sit on the bench at a top 8 club and still get picked, because not playing is better than outperforming all your teammates at a bottom of the league club. I work in the media, have spent time covering Villa as well as other clubs and if all reporters were being honest, they don't have a clue who's coming and going until the last minute. It might be a reporter gets a tip off but they wouldn't have the steer on a long running saga like this one. Most transfer speculation is just gossip within the industry. Perhaps Jack will go, perhaps he will stay? But the only people who really know what's going on are him, those close to him and the club or clubs involved. Not press
brommy
@Fairy In Boots What you have heard might be plausible, but do you recognise that whilst Jack and his team may have been happy to receive an offer from another club, being flattered, perhaps even excited by the option available if Villa accepted a bid, Jack could also want to stay and help rebuild Villa in the Premier League? Which of those options Jack saw as first or second of two fantastic prizes is irrelevant guesswork and not as important as whether Jack is playing for Villa for the foreseeable future. What I think it demonstrates is how perfectly tight lipped everyone in the Villa hierarchy is. If the Athletic can get insight and news about other clubs, but have to resort to making up stuff for Villa, it's not really a bad thing. But it is a good reason for me not to give them a penny. Win:win On topic edit: As for Grealish it is abundantly clear that he's happy playing for Villa if we're moving in the right direction I said last season that i think his love for the club actually hinders him in some of our bigger games, the nerves of a fan amplified 100 fold because you're on the pitch must be really difficult to handle. I think we also saw the emotion of a fan coming out in the latter part of the season, where everyone and his dog thought we were going down. His performances will have been affected by it, although he is such a good player that it would probably still leave him as our best or second best player on the pitch. He does seem to have got better handling it over time, I think he's going to have a truly amazing season next year if we get our signings right Edited August 18, 2020 by MrBlack 6
